Syed Hamid Making The Situation Worse For Barisan Nasional

We are writing this letter under the capacity of local leaders / grassroots leaders especially for the Indian Community and also as a member of a BARISAN NASIONAL component party. Many things have been said and done about the ongoing issue of the 22 year old Police Brutality death victim, Kugen. There are many political parties are now trying to gain publicity and names for themselves rather than highlighting the main issues. Authorities and politician are making the situation worse with irresponsible and childish statements. First it all started when the Selangor Chief Police Officer sarcastically gave a press statement that two Deputy Minister ‘BARGE’ into the mortuary. Well it clearly indicates that this CPO was either sleeping or not aware on what is going on. The dailies have proved that the crowd only entered the room after the Hospital authorities opened the door after continues request from the family members. The arrival of the Deputy Minister which was about 1 hour later showed that they had nothing to do with the issue. I salute the Ministers who had gone to the mortuary to handle and control the issue professionally especially T. Murugiah. I’m sure he was just doing his job as a BPA Chief. For a CPO to give a press statement without referring to the concern Deputy Ministers, just shows and indicates that he is not doing his job professionally and according to the protocol and procedure. Than, came the issue where the family members wanted a second post mortem. Why is there so much hassle on that? Its their right for the second post mortem, and T.Murugiah had to go around to get this second post mortem done. There was a good feedback when the AG classified this case as murder. But Evan than, the police were denying the family’s rights for the post mortem. Finally the post mortem was held on Suday moring till late night and im very sure what the results will be in 2 days time.

To make situation worse, the Home Minister gave a most shocking statement that the two Deputy Ministers can be charged for going to the mortuary. Well I doubt in which world is this Deputy Minister living. Is UMNO Ministers trying to say that, if the Indian community has any problems and issue, no leaders should get down to help them? These people should just find their own way to solve their problems? Syed Hamid should be more intellectual. This is something basic where all politicians will do. When the community has a problem, it’s the duty of the Deputy Ministers especially T. Murugiah ( since he is in BPA ) to get to the ground and solve this problem. Syed Hamid’s statement has certainly make the situation worse. With the circulation of Kugen’s injury photo’s each and everyone are disappointed with the attitude of the police officers who had beaten this youth to death.. Syed hamid should have given statement that will cool off the Indian community and not telling off the Deputy Ministers that they will be charge for being at the scene. Like the Indian proverbs says ‘ He is pouring oil into the burning fire. Certainly he has made the community to further hate the Barisan nasional Government. We as local leaders have been receiving continuous critics from the community on the brutal act of the police and also the irresponsible statement of the Deputy Minister. Syed Hamid should realize that there are thousands of grassroots leaders who now have to answer to the community for his sarcastic statement. Don’t forget the March 8 2008 general Election. Work towards regaining the five states and the two third of the Parliament. Don’t give statements and make situation worse. I wonder if he had seen the pictures of the victim. Evan if the detainee did commit the crime, this is not the way to interrogate the victim. This is an act of animal and not human. Murugiah is doing a good job and certainly slowly he is helping Barisan Nasional to regain the support of not only the Indian Community but also the Malays and Chinese. Let him do his job. The CPO and Syed Hamid should have look into this matter from all angle before giving out their statements. We at the ground level are very – very disappointed that the UMNO Minister has not changed Evan after the March General Election. Than what is the use for us to work hard and handle all the community service voluntarily ( we are not being paid for anything – Syed Hamid is receiving his pay from the tax payers money as his pay ), to make sure Barisan Nasional wins the majority during the next election? We rather sit at home and do nothing than being the scape goat just because the inhumane statement of Syed Haimd. The top Barisan Leaders should always realize that their statement will backfire those in the grassroot. As for this issue, we here believe Murugiah and Devamany was just doing their job and were undertaking their responsibility for the community and Barisan Nasional. Support them for their effort not back stab them. May the victim will be laid to rest soon may he rest in peace.

Horror flight on board MH161

I am a Malaysian currently residing and working in Dubai. On Dec 25, 2008, I flew with Malaysian Airlines flight MH161 to Kuala Lumpur to visit my parents. I was in seat 36H (an aisle seat) and the seat next to me, 36K (window seat) was vacant. The flight stopped over at Karachi for an hour.

In Karachi, more passengers boarded the plane. One male passenger boarded, showed his boarding pass to a stewardess and she pointed to seat beside me (36K). The man looked at me and said, ‘She's a Hindu, I cannot sit beside her.’ The stewardess responded, ‘So what? What's wrong with Hindu?’ The man then began to yell and shout that he would not sit next to a Hindu.

The crew insisted that he had to because there were no other seats available because the plane was full. Then this passenger sat down but began to verbally abuse my faith and the crew members. I sat in my seat but was physically cringing away from him. The flight supervisor was summoned and until then the man was still seated next to me. Imagine my shock, horror and fear in being next to a hostile, abusive person.

One steward did stand next to me but did not offer any help and I did not feel safe or reassured. I reached out and told that steward that I did not feel safe anymore. I said this to him softly in English and he told me to sit and wait. He then walked off and a female crew member took his place. All this time I was under the impression that this hostile passenger beside me was a Pakistani.

I then told the stewardess in Malay that this man should not be seated beside me after what he had said about me. There were other Malaysian passengers sitting in the same area and all of them heard me. She smiled and merely nodded.

Finally, the flight supervisor, ‘SB’, approached the passenger and after an angry exchange, the passenger said, ‘Move her then!’ and SB replied, ‘Yes, we will move her’. More angry words were exchanged and it was revealed that the passenger was actually a Malaysian. When this news was revealed, the passenger actually stood up with his fists up, ready to be physically violent. I was then hauled out of my seat and taken to the back of the plane. I was kept in the kitchen.

By this time I had gone into shock and was crying uncontrollably. I was shaking with rage because I was in a position where there was nothing I could do to defend myself. No one else seemed to be doing anything too.

I could not see what was happening from the rear of the plane but I did see uniformed security personnel approaching my original seat. I could not hear or make out what was happening as there was a group of people standing around my original seat. Eventually, the group left and it was announced that the plane would be taking off.

All this time I was in the kitchen, shaking and crying. All that was done for me was crew members taking turns to ask me if I was okay and offering me Coke and water! The plane began to taxi and I was then taken to another seat (42H). As I sat down, I asked the steward, ‘Is he off the plane?’ and the answer was, ‘No.’ I was appalled.

After the plane took off, the flight supervisor, SB, came and sat beside me. He explained to me that they could not put him off the plane because he was a deportee and if they had insisted on putting him off, then the plane would not have been cleared for take off. I was still crying at this point. I asked, ‘Why am I in a different seat? He should be!’ but my question was not answered.

The plane was not full. There were eight seats vacant in the rear, four on the right aisle and four seats on the left. Seat 42H, where I was put, was one of those vacant seats in the rear. If the MAS crew knew there was a deportee boarding, should they not have made arrangements to place him at the rear of the plane? What kind of airline policy allows a deportee to sit beside a female passenger travelling alone?

I spent the next five and a half hours on the flight in tears. I was not able to sleep because I knew that a hostile passenger was only six rows down from me. I was not afraid but in rage. My friends who are reading this would know the kind of person I am. I have always stood up for my rights and for the rights of people whom I love. I would not usually tolerate such abuse and I would not have hesitated in defending myself.

What stopped me was knowing that I was on a plane, in a confined space and that there were other passengers around me too, women and children. The abusive passenger was not removed from the plane and when we landed at KLIA, he disembarked like a normal passenger and was not escorted or arrested. I also disembarked knowing that I was now in the same terminal, on my own, as this hostile passenger.

I am very disappointed with the way MAS dealt with the incident. That passenger should have been taken to the rear of the plane and restrained. I was the victim of the incident yet I lost my chosen seat that I had paid for. Apart from offers of water, Coke and some verbal reassurances, the crew did not do anything else for me.

I have contacted other major airlines and this is how they would have dealt with the matter: I would have been moved to Business/First Class and I would have been escorted into the terminal until I safely exited the airport. MAS did not do anything for me. First of all, they jeopardised my safety and well-being by forcing the passenger to sit beside me knowing that he was hostile towards me and then they did nothing else to keep me safe.

I was in the same cabin as that passenger, wondering if he was going to walk by or pass me. I spent the entire five and a half hours in tears because I could not stand up for my rights and also because I had to keep my own rage pent-up.

Once I landed, I rang my husband in Dubai and related the events to him. He took immediate steps to contact MAS but to no avail. I stayed for one week in Malaysia and every single day, I tried to call their Customer Complaints Department. All I got was a voice mail. I left numerous messages but no one called me back. No one contacted my husband in Dubai. It is only after he put it up on the MAS blog that we have received some kind of response. Fourteen days after the incident, someone from MAS called me to offer an apology.

My husband also received an email from someone who has offered me 25 percent discount on a return flight from KL to Dubai and actually referred to that abusive passenger as a ‘fellow customer’! She also clearly stated that measures taken were to prevent that passenger from getting angrier. So in other words, they do admit that.

These are the questions I posed to MAS:

Why force a passenger who is racially abusive and hostile to my appearance and faith to sit beside me? There were other seats available at the rear as I discovered later.This was not a passenger who was merely fussing about his seat, this was a passenger who was potentially a threat to another passenger.

Why did the flight supervisor immediately give in to his demands and agree to move me? I was not the passenger causing trouble.

Upon retrospect, I think I was lied to. I do not think the passenger was a deportee. It was a lie told to me to keep him on the plane and keep me quiet. If a lie was told, that means that the crew took measures to protect the hostile passenger and themselves but not me, the victim. If so, then the MAS crew perpetuated the racism and discrimination initiated by the passenger.

If this is the case, then the entire crew participated in jeopardising my safety and appropriate action should be taken against them. If the passenger was truly a deportee or an INA (inadmissible because of visa) then the plane captain should have documents about him. If a deportee or INA caused trouble on a flight, the captain should have been informed immediately.

Why was the captain not informed and if he was, why did he not come to see me? I have been informed that KLIA security had been called but there was no one waiting when the plane landed. The abusive passenger disembarked like any other normal passenger. Why was he not nabbed or restrained? Why did not the crew ensure my safety in the terminal too?

I am demanding a formal, written apology from Malaysian Airlines. I want a truthful, reasonable explanation for all the five points I have listed above. I want some compensation for what I suffered. So far, I have only received an e-mail informing that the matter is under investigation.

A. Kugan 22, was today beaten to death by the Police while he was detained for car theft. The suspect was detained at the Taipan, Subang Jaya Police Station on the 15th Jan 2009 at a Kondominium in Puchong and it his family was not informed about the arrest. The police officers had stopped the family from identifying the body sine the family was informed about his death abt noon today. About 10.30pm Human Rights lawyer, N Surendran together with the family members had tried to persuade the staff to enter the mortuary when they was repetedly denied. Finally about 11pm when one of the staff opened the door, those who present manage to enter in. YB. Senator T. Murugiah arrived at 12.30am had called Tan Sri Musa Hassan to inform him about the seriousness of the situation. An hour later Datuk Devamany arrived to see what had actually happen to the deceased. The funeral and the post moterm report are to be held and received tomorrow.

My fellow citizens:

I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors. I thank President Bush for his service to our nation, as well as the generosity and cooperation he has shown throughout this transition.

Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath. The words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace. Yet, every so often the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms. At these moments, America has carried on not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because We the People have remained faithful to the ideals of our forbearers, and true to our founding documents. So it has been. So it must be with this generation of Americans.

That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. Homes have been lost; jobs shed; businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly; our schools fail too many; and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet.

These are the indicators of crisis, subject to data and statistics. Less measurable but no less profound is a sapping of confidence across our land - a nagging fear that America's decline is inevitable, and that the next generation must lower its sights.

Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America - they will be met. On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord. On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics.

We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness. In reaffirming the greatness of our nation, we understand that greatness is never a given. It must be earned. Our journey has never been one of short-cuts or settling for less. It has not been the path for the faint-hearted - for those who prefer leisure over work, or seek only the pleasures of riches and fame. Rather, it has been the risk-takers, the doers, the makers of things - some celebrated but more often men and women obscure in their labor, who have carried us up the long, rugged path towards prosperity and freedom.

For us, they packed up their few worldly possessions and traveled across oceans in search of a new life. For us, they toiled in sweatshops and settled the West; endured the lash of the whip and plowed the hard earth. For us, they fought and died, in places like Concord and Gettysburg; Normandy and Khe Sahn. Time and again these men and women struggled and sacrificed and worked till their hands were raw so that we might live a better life. They saw America as bigger than the sum of our individual ambitions; greater than all the differences of birth or wealth or faction.

This is the journey we continue today. We remain the most prosperous, powerful nation on Earth. Our workers are no less productive than when this crisis began. Our minds are no less inventive, our goods and services no less needed than they were last week or last month or last year. Our capacity remains undiminished. But our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions - that time has surely passed. Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America.

For everywhere we look, there is work to be done. The state of the economy calls for action, bold and swift, and we will act - not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth. We will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together. We will restore science to its rightful place, and wield technology's wonders to raise health care's quality and lower its cost. We will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our factories. And we will transform our schools and colleges and universities to meet the demands of a new age. Now, there are some who question the scale of our ambitions - who suggest that our system cannot tolerate too many big plans. Their memories are short. What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them - that the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply. The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works - whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified. Where the answer is yes, we intend to move forward. Where the answer is no, programs will end. And those of us who manage the public's dollars will be held to account - to spend wisely, reform bad habits, and do our business in the light of day - because only then can we restore the vital trust between a people and their government.

Nor is the question before us whether the market is a force for good or ill. Its power to generate wealth and expand freedom is unmatched, but this crisis has reminded us that without a watchful eye, the market can spin out of control - and that a nation cannot prosper long when it favors only the prosperous. The success of our economy has always depended not just on the size of our Gross Domestic Product, but on the reach of our prosperity; on our ability to extend opportunity to every willing heart - not out of charity, but because it is the surest route to our common good.

As for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals. Our Founding Fathers, faced with perils we can scarcely imagine, drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man, a charter expanded by the blood of generations. Those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expedience's sake. And so to all other peoples and governments who are watching today, from the grandest capitals to the small village where my father was born: know that America is a friend of each nation and every man, woman, and child who seeks a future of peace and dignity, and that we are ready to lead once more.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

We are the keepers of this legacy. Guided by these principles once more, we can meet those new threats that demand even greater effort - even greater cooperation and understanding between nations. We will begin to responsibly leave Iraq to its people, and forge a hard-earned peace in Afghanistan. With old friends and former foes, we will work tirelessly to lessen the nuclear threat, and roll back the specter of a warming planet. We will not apologize for our way of life, nor will we waver in its defense, and for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken; you cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you.

For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus - and non-believers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this Earth; and because we have tasted the bitter swill of civil war and segregation, and emerged from that dark chapter stronger and more united, we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass; that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve; that as the world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself; and that America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace.

To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect.

To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society's ills on the West - know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy. To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.

To the people of poor nations, we pledge to work alongside you to make your farms flourish and let clean waters flow; to nourish starved bodies and feed hungry minds. And to those nations like ours that enjoy relative plenty, we say we can no longer afford indifference to suffering outside our borders; nor can we consume the world's resources without regard to effect. For the world has changed, and we must change with it.

As we consider the road that unfolds before us, we remember with humble gratitude those brave Americans who, at this very hour, patrol far-off deserts and distant mountains. They have something to tell us today, just as the fallen heroes who lie in Arlington whisper through the ages. We honor them not only because they are guardians of our liberty, but because they embody the spirit of service; a willingness to find meaning in something greater than themselves. Sivanesan Should Check His Own backyard First

I would like to refer to the press statement made by Perak Exco member, A. Sivanesan on the 20th Dec 2008 ( Saturday ) in the Malaysian Nanban that Deputy Minister In Prime Minister’s Department, T. Murugiah is not working on the certain issues. Its about 9 months since the General election ended and DAP reps are still in the midst of campaigning and criticizing others when their very own backyard is full of dirt and rubbish. Well, I wonder if Sivanesan is really getting to the ground to solve the problems effecting not only the Indian community, but for each and every individual in Perak.

Its so heartening and sad to see Indian representatives are still being so arrogant and wasting their time by finding / creating faults and mistakes by other leaders. In the press statement, asking Murugiah to mention problems that arises in Perak particularly from the aspect of Health, Environment and Human Resource. What a ‘weekend’ joke from Sivanesan to ask Murugiah to list out these problems when he himself is the Exco of Perak. Sivanesan should have his own team and shouldnwork together with DAP branch leaders to find and list out all these problems. There are many issues which was handled by Sivanesan showed that he is indeed a new leader and has a lot to learn. For instance, the urban pioneers in Perak especially at the Kinta River where he failed to act professionally and his outrageous statement, earned him critics from bloggers. Other than that, his effort to name Jalan Siblin to Jalan P. Pattoo without getting the opinion of the occupants on that lane, ended up by the idea being scrapped. In the latest issue of the relocation of 32 pig farms in Batang Padang District. Sivanesan had acted beyond the knowledge of the Perak MB. At a press conference when reporters enquired the MB on the issue, the statement given by the MB and Sivanesan was against each other, forcing the MB to leave early from the PC. There are many more issues that can be listed out to show mistakes and failures of not only Sivanesan but our other leaders.

But it is wise to give them time to learn and act professionally. Sivanesan childish act to criticize Murugiah on failing to act on SJKT Gunung Rapat Tamil School and not to answer his calls shows that he prefers to shoot the gun before investigating issues that rise. As far I know there are many tamil school cases, let it be land problems or etc being handled by Murugiah and he have solved many. There is a land issue of a Tamil School in Penang that was given to Murugiah and he have taken action on it. The relevant Ministry have called us up to work on it. On not to answer his calls, I believe its being politicize because everyone who wants to get hold of him can do so even by calling his office or write to him. Tamil school issues are official and it is wise to write in rather than making calls ( and I wonder if he had called the correct num ).

Sivanesan should spend time visiting the BPA office in Putrajaya on a Tuesday and he can see on his own, the initiative taken by Murugiah to handle problems effecting the community from all over Malaysia including Perak. I was at the BPA office few times to raise up some problems and I was overwhelmed by the way Murugiah handles the problems. Last week Evan tough he lost his handphone, he still manage to attend the ‘meet the public’ session and handled the entire session professionally. My friends and I was taken aback on his effort to encourage youths to get involve into business. Sivanesan should start to work for the people who have voted him in and stop getting cheap publicity. He knows deep down his heart that Murugiah is far much better than him. Wake up and work for the sake of our community. Do your part for the community. Don’t waste your precious time finding mistakes. If others start to do the same to you, your downfall begins.

Newly elected Penang Gerakan Chairman, Datuk Dr. Teng Hock Nan have been continuously sidelining Indian Members. First he failed to appoint any Indians to the State main body. JPM. This is a clear early indication that Gerakan will not be fielding any Indian candidates for the 13th General Election. Penang which is the main stronghold of Gerakan for surely will loose more support especially from the Indian members due to the irresponsible action and decision by the new Penang Gerakan Chairman. Evan the Indian leaders in Gerakan have failed to voice this up. They are busy safeguarding their own interest and position for the sake of themselves, friends and cronies. Dr. Teng in a sms sent to an Indian member mentioned that, he is not racist and is indeed multiracial. I wonder if he ever knows what is Multiracial is really about.

First of all, we would like to state here clearly that we’re not PPP members. We’re normal Malaysian citizens who have been going through the Tamil dailies over the past few days.

Well, we would like to touch on Senator T Murugiah (deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department) who is in charge of the Public Complaints Bureau (BPA). Well, undoubtedly, it's a department which relates to all ministries and departments in Malaysia of which there are complaints and it's the job of the BPA to solve them. We have to admit that before this we were not sure what BPA was really about. It was as though its purpose and functions were hidden from the knowledge of the community.

We were first impressed when this deputy minister were willing to meet up Seputeh Member of Parliament Teresa Kok regarding her complaint on the food served to her during her ISA detention. This is the first time we came across a BN leader going to the ground to tackle a problem on the basis that Teresa Kok is a member of the community rather than seeing it from the angle that she was an opposition party leader.

It was a good sign that BN leaders are now being more matured. Than came the bombshell when Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar said that Murugiah should just focus on his work. It struck our mind that this was the usual thing and Murugiah would have to take orders and just close the Teresa Kok case. But to our surprise, the next day he firmly replied that he was, indeed, just doing his job and intended to continue doing it. This guy made us admire him for the second time when we realized for the first time that a BN component party leader was being brave enough to fight back rather than just being a 'Pak Angguk'.

We have also been reading that Murugiah has been going round the country solving issues and problems that are affecting the people. It is too bad that the top leaders in PPP itself are jealous of him. Certain party top leaders have said they are not happy with Murugiah. We personally feel that PPP should be proud that they have produced such a good leader. Many people on the ground are certainly happy with the way he handles their complaints and his commitment to the responsibilities given.

The Indians should really change their mentality by encouraging and supporting an upcoming leader rather than trying to bring him down. The latest issue involves Murugiah handling a complaint involving low-cost flats which has raised the ire of Federal Territories Deputy Minister, M Saravanan. We read the latter’s statement in the Tamil dailies and it was so childish.

There are so many issues in the Federal Territory that need to be solved including problems affecting the Indians but Saravanan doesn’t seem to have the time and would rather want to challenge Murugiah to a debate. Saravanan should just focus on his work rather than being jealous of other leaders who have come in to help sort out issues he can’t solve it. Maybe Saravanan don't realize that Murugiah is in charge of the BPA.

It’s sad to see that the MIC leaders have not changed from those days. Why can’t all of them work together for the betterment of the community? Work closely and throw away the jealousy. It is so sad to read the attacks by Saravanan on a fellow colleague just due to jealousy. Don't just talk the walk, but walk the talk! As for Murugiah, good luck to you. We believe you are one leader the community needs and other leaders should follow the example.

Thumbs Up To Gerakan Vice President Huan Cheng Guan

I would like to touch on the speech given by the newly appointed Gerakan Vice President, Huan Cheng Guan for bravely bringing up issues relating to Gerakan and our Community. I followed my friend to a congratulatory dinner for the newly elected VC at Sunway Seberang Jaya on the 24^th Okt 2008.

As I walk in, I notice there were few tables occupied by the Indian members. Suddenly it struck my mind that this will be an usual dinner where we as Indians will go unnoticed. The show begins with opening speeches by few leaders and it was the turn of the newly elected VC. To my surprise, his speech showed the love for Gerakan and the Community. He was firm with the wrong decision by the top Gerakan leaders who has failed to be and act as truly multiracial, especially in penang. His speech also included ;-
1) Gerakan failed and lost badly in the last election because it failed to allocate seats for Indians and non Chinese. If Gerakan were to make a comeback, it should be realistic and start giving opportunities to Indians and non Chinese. The top leaders should seriously look into this and turn Gerakan into truly multiracial. Huan, vow to work hard to bring in more non Chinese and make Gerakan a truly multiracial.
2) As a VC of Gerakan, urged the Government to consider giving two days holidays for Deepavali. Chinese New Year and Hari Raya are given to days public holidays and it’s for the whole country. Why its only one day Holiday and its only for certain states? Make Deepavali as 2 days public holiday and for all states in Malaysia .
3) DPM have said to set a task force team to ensure all Indians who are still lack of birth cert and IC to help them obtain their identification. Huan urge Gerakan Indian members to be added into the task force team because there are many capable Indian leaders can help out to solve these problems.
4) National Registration Department should cut its red tape on issuing Citizenship for senior citizens. There are many out there who have stayed in Malaysia for the past 40 – 50 years but due to the red tapes by the department, these people unable to apply for their citizenship.
5) A special task force to be setup to for the people of Sabah and Sarawak to tackle their IC / Citiezenship / problems. Many people out there who are locals yet to have their identification papers with them.

Im pleased with the Gerakan VC’s statement. He was bold and truly being multiracial. Im sure Gerakan will now move further with leaders like him. Congrats to you for highlighting issues that normally leaders have been keeping silent. I would also like to suggest to Malaysiakini here to have an interview with this new VC of Gerakan to see his point of views and how he plans to bring up Gerakan.

To The Newly Elected Top Leadership Of Gerakan,

First of all I would like to congratulate everyone of you including Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon as President, Deputy President Datuk Chang Ko Youn, Vice-Presidents Datuk Mah Siew Keong, Datuk Dr S. Vijayaratnam & Huan Cheng Guan and fellow CC Members. I would also like to take the opportunity to congratulate Datuk Seri Dr. Teng Hock Nan who is now the Penang Gerakan President.

Hence I would clearly like to put down in written here that, I together with fellow members are totally disappointed on the way Gerakan have treated Indian members. Tan Sri Dr Koh and Dr Teng Hock Nan, I would like you to recall on the meeting held among Indian leaders at our Party HQ after the 12^th General Election.. In that particular meeting, both of u promise to give Indians more opportunities at the top level. Lately Evan during the NDC this issue was brought up. But it has been proved that the top leadership of Gerakan has FAILED to look into these issues.

I would also like to touch on the press statement by Huan Cheng Guan in The Star ( 15^th Okt 2008 ) that more chances should be given to Indians and the failure to appoint A. Mohan into top post shows that the current state leadership are bias. For the top leader’s info, If A. Mohan is a Gerakan member for 20 years, I am a Gerakan man for the past 28 years. Till now Gerakan have failed to give or appoint any long serving Indians into the Party top leadership. What a shame.

I would also like to slam the party admin and membership bureau for failing to recruit or in a better way to say FAILING TO ACCEPT new Indian members. In 2005 I submitted 60 over forms for a new branch in Penang. But during the last Branch level AGM when I gave a check, to my shock all of the names were missing. I had to recollect all the forms and too bad those who wanted to join Gerakan in 2005 got disappointed the way Gerakan handle the membership and with the top leadership. A fellow friend of mine who intended to contest for Branch Youth Chairman and later to the Division level could not do so. This shows that Gerakan are indirectly killing the political career of capable individuals.

Everyone around us are thinking that my boys are the Members of Gerakan, but it’s a shame that we are actually not due to the carelessness and bad intentions of the top leadership. If all this allegation of mine is not true and if the top leadership are sincere, Penang State Gerakan Chairman would have appointed Indians to the top post. He has given a sarcastic statement that Indians will be appointed into Bureau Chairman. We are capable for top post rather than bureau chairman. Im dare to say if all membership of the Indians is accepted, there will be more top Indian leaders In Gerakan. Whenever there is a new proposed branch with maximum Indian members, the branch takes time to get approved. Im saying this from my very own experience, I would have had my own branch since 2005 if all my submitted members were accepted.

Accept the challenge by Huan Cheng Guan to recruit more non Chinese into the National Gerakan Committee as Secretary general, Asst Secretary general, treasurer and assistant treasurer including to CC and CWC. I bet the top leadership will not do this. To all my fellow Indian members, we have been saying we love Gerakan and we are SATU HATI but if the leadership now fails to make changes, we walk out. It doesn’t mean we have to jump party, but stepping back is already a big slap for Gerakan because it will proof in the eye of 26 million Malaysian that Gerakan failed to proof themselves as multiracial party. Iv got offer to join some other component party from BN, but my love for Gerakan is true and I hope Gerakan leaders will open their eyes once for all and do the changes! SATU HATI.

Sekiranya pelajar – pelajar ini dilatih dan diterapkan mengenai pentingnya menyelamatkan genesrasi akan datang, para pelajar ini dapat berusaha dan memberi tunjuk ajak di Sekolah – Sekolah Tamil di Kawasan mereka.

Satu guideline juga harus ditetapkan agar ‘Introduction Week’ atau ‘ Freshies Week’ tidak disalah gunakan. Satu kes yang telah dibangkitkan disebuah blog baru – baru ini bahawa ICS di sebuah university di Melaka meminta pelajar untuk menyertai aktiviti suai kenal untuk tempoh 7 hari dan sehingga ke awal pagi. Sememangnya aktiviti suai kenal diperlukan tapi bukan sehingga 7 hari dan ke awal pagi dengan aktiviti menari, dll.

Menyatukan Semua NGO, Peniaga, Pengusaha, Ahli Perniagaan dan Penjual di bawah satu badan bermula dari peringkat akar umbi sehingga ke peringkat pusat.
Tidak pasti jika cara ini kini diimplimentasikan oleh Indian Chambers of Commerce. Dengan penyatuan kesemua badan ini dibawah satu bumbung, kesemua maklumat, info, dan apa jua maklumat mengenai agama, ekonomi, pendidikan, peluan perniagaan, bantuan kewangan, peluang peluang menjana pendapatan dll dapat disalurkan sehingga ke peringkat akar umbi. Semua Persatuan, Pertubuhan berbentuk kasta perlu diharamkan dan dibubarkan
Tindakan ini perlu dilakukan bagi memastikan tiada pecah belah diantara Kaum India. Penubuhan Persatuan / Pertubuhan ini hanya memecahbelahkan penduduk dan tidak menuyumbang kepada kemajuan atau pembangunan ekonomi serta pendidikan Masyarakat India.

Note : Isu ini perlu dipandang serius kerana pemuda – pemuda sekarang menerapkan tingah laku ini di kalangan mereka. Di laman rangkaian / carian rakan ‘www.friendster.com’, group – group berbentuk kasta dimulakan. Menubuhkan sebuah Badan Induk Untuk Kuil Hindu, Isu 0 Isu Agama Hindu, Tanah Perkuburan Hindu, Paderi, Wasiat.
Nyata sekali Hindu Sangam gagal di dalam isu ini. Satu Jawatankuasa Induk perlu ditubuhkan bagi memantau aktiviti Kuil, mengelak pembinaan Kuil tanpa permit / lessen, apa jua isu berkaitan dengan agama, masalah – masalah tanh perkuburan dan juga paderi India. Badan ini juga boleh memainkan peranan dalam hal – hal pengurusan harta dan wasiat.

Menubuhakan sebuah Task Force Team atau Melantik Sebuah NGO untuk memantau masalah – masalah yang dihadapi oleh Masyarakat India
Sebuah ‘ One Stop Department’ atau sebua NGO perlu diwujudkan untuk menerima masalah masalah yang dihadapi oleh masyarakat, sekolah tamil, ngo dll. Dengan penubuhan badan ini, semua masalah yang dihadapi akan sampai ke sini dan selepas itu boleh disalurkan ke agensi berkenaan untuk penyelesaian.

Meningkatkan Kadar kelahiran Kaum India, Pendaftaran Prkahwinan, dan Pendaftaran Anak Baru lahir
Satu tindakan perlu dilakukan untuk memastikan kadar kelahiran Masyarakat India mencapai tahap 90%. Bagi tempoh 20 tahun akan datang, kadar kelahiran akan berkurangan dan ini secara tidak langsung akan mengurangkan kadar pengundi India pada masa hadapan. Sebagai contoh sejak beberapa tahun kadar kelahiran kaum Cina di Penang, Selangor dan Perak menjangkau 80%. Kita harus mengikut rentak kelahiran tersebut untuk mengelakkan daripada ditinggalkan jauh dari segi statistik kelahiran penduduk Malaysia mengikut kaum pada masa akan datang.

Pendaftaran Perkahwinan kaum India perlu dilakukan dan dimaklumkan ke peringkat akar umbi kerana masih ada yang berkahwin dengan hanya mengikut adapt Hindu sahaja. Kegaglan mendaftarkan perkahwinan menyukarkan penaftaratn kelahiran anak.

The three-vice president posts were won by former Gerakan Youth chief Datuk Mah Siew Keong, former plantation and commodities ministry parliamentary secretary Datuk Dr S. Vijayaratnam and Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) executive secretary Huan Cheng Guan.

Huan, 47, who was surprised by his win, also pledged to work to bring in more non-Chinese memberships for the party. Currently i am holding the position as Vice Chairman for the National Youth and also Central Committee members. Marina Lee AbdullahRaja Petra Kamaruddin ( RPK ) has been detained under the Internal Security Act. 10 police personnel came to their home in Sungai Buloh at about 1.10pm to arrest him. RPK, is believed to have allowed comments on his website that criticize Prophet Muhammad and Islam and in an article "Not all Arabs are descendants of the Prophet. This is the second arrest of Raja Petra, who is also part of the Selangor royal family, has been detained under ISA, which allows for indefinite detention without trial, the first one was in 2001. RPK was released after 2 months of arrest. The family is yet to engage a lawyer at press time.

Sehubungan itu, seperti yang telah dilaporkan bahawa seorang guru dari Sekolah berkenaan dengan secara sedar telah mengeluarkan kenyataan dan perkataan yang menyinggung serta menghina kaum India di Negara ini. Wajar diulangi , bahawa diantara kenyataan yang disebut adalah seperti berikut “ KELING PARIAH, NEGRO DAN MONYET HITAM”
Selain daripada itu , ialah :

i. Orang India datang / lahir dari anjing

ii. Kaum India bodoh dan kearah gangsterism serta Pencuri.

iii. Kanak kanak India adalah Pelacur

iv. Pemuda India tiada telur.

Dengan berdasarkan kewajaran kehidupan didalam sebuah Negara yang didiami oleh pelbagai kaum, maka kenyataan dan penghinaan seperti itu sepatutnya tidak berlaku. Oleh itu perbuatan itu jelas memperlihatkan unsur unsur menghina dan menjatuhkan maruah sesuatu kaum. Pada pendapat kami, berasaskan kepada pegangan agama, nilai, budaya, peradaban, falsafah kehidupan, kepercayaan, dan apa saja corak latar belakang masyarakat di Malaysia, maka perbuatan seperti itu harus dianggap sebagai perbuatan yang mempunyai niat yang jahat dan seharusnya di dikutuk.

Semua pihak harus memandang berat terhadap isu tersebut, kerana sikap berdiam diri akan hanya menyuburkan nilai nilai negatif dalam masyarakat kita dan ini sudah pasti akan ada tindak balas yang akan memunkinkan timbul masalah yang tidak sepatutnya menjadi pemangkin yang buruk kepada masyarakat keseluruhanya. Atas kewajaran tersebut, kami mengemukan beberapa persoalan dan kenyataan untuk menjadi atas pertimbangan didalam menilai semula isu berkenaan:

Apakah wajar kenyataan tersebut keluar dari mulut seorang yang bertangung jawab dan terlatih dalam bidang pendidikan. ?

Wajarkah individu tersebut terus dibiarkan berada dalam sebuah institusi pendidikan di Negara ini ?

Apakah tidak ada tindakan diambil terhadap mereka yang ternyata melanggar etika dan menghina kaum kaum di Negara ini ?

Apakah Pihak Kementerian hanya memandang sepi dan serong terhadap aduan dan tingkah laku tenaga pengajar yang secara sedar telah melakukan perbuatan yang menyalahi prinsip pendidikan Negara ?

Apakah manusia yang sihat, waras, terlatih, berilmu, bertangungjawap, berpendidikan dan berperanan sebagai pengajar wajar mengeluarkan perkataan dan kenyataan seperti itu ?

Apakah tidak ada kod etika yang boleh dikenakan tindakan terhadap guru berkenaan ?

Oleh yang demikian pihak kami berharap YB Dato Seri / YB Dr, dapat menilai semula kenyataan tersebut agar tindakan yang lebih proaktif dapat diambil dengan kadar segera. Kami yakin ini akan dapat membendung masalah ini daripada terus menjadi kemelut didalam masyarakat kita khususnya kaum India.

Bukit Bendera Division Chief who created tensed among Barisan Nasional Component parties have been suspended for 3 years over his racial rants. Umno President Abdullah Ahmad Badawi announce the decision a moment ago after a three hour emergency meeting. Earlier about 2.00pm Ahmad's Ismail supporters gathered in front of PWTC. Abdullah also told that Ahmad would also be stripped of all party posts.They carried banners such as, ‘MT Pertahankan Maruah Datuk Ahmad Ismail’ (Supreme Council, Defend Ahmad Ismail’s Dignity) and ‘Kami sokong Datuk Ahmad Ismail’ (We support Ahmad Ismail). They also shouted ‘Hidup Melayu’ (Long Live the Malays) as top Umno leaders arrived at the 39-storey tower block which housed the party headquarters.

Penang Gerakan Youth leader Huan Cheng Guan has quit with immediate effect as state Barisan Nasional Youth chief, to protest the disrespect shown to his party’s acting head Koh Tsu Koon by several Umno members yesterday.

They had torn up and trampled on a photograph of Gerakan acting president Koh Tsu Koon at the Penang Umno headquarters.Three other Gerakan Youth leaders - vice-chairperson Yew Khean Siang, secretary Oh Teong Keong and assistant-secretary Heng Thee Wey - will submit their resignations to the state BN secretariat tomorrow. Yew is the BN state Youth vice-chairperson, while Oh and Heng are members of the BN Youth committee.

Huan, who is currently in Taiwan, conveyed a message via SMS to BN national Youth head Hishammuddin Hussein this morning. He said he would not tolerate Koh being subjected to “such humiliation and utter contempt” by segments within Umno. “It’s too much for me to take. How could they tear down my leader’s photo and step on it? I have tendered my resignation as Penang BN Youth chief with immediate effect,” the former Batu Kawan parliamentarian told Malaysiakini via SMS.

Huan, who is on a study tour of Taiwan with 49 BN MPs in his capacity as executive secretary of the Backbenchers Club, also rejected calls by certain Gerakan leaders for him to abandon the trip and return immediately. “As the executive secretary, I'm duty-bound to be in Taiwan to co-ordinate the tour. I would be irresponsible to abandon it and return home now,” he explained. Huan, who has to relinquish his leadership of Gerakan Youth this month due to his age, had recently announced that he would contest the post of state chairperson in the upcoming party polls.

‘Dismayed by Umno’

The other Gerakan Youth leaders said they were resigning because they were dismayed by the ineptness of Umno and BN top leaders in reining in Bukit Bendera Umno division head Ahmad Ismail. “Ahmad is going on and on with his seditious remarks and threats to disrupt the harmony within BN and among Malaysians. His supporters tore down and stepped on our party leader’s portrait. But Umno and BN leadership are still hesitating to act against him,” said Oh. Ahmad’s supporters had verbally abused reporters and torn down Koh’s portrait in the meeting hall during yesterday’s press conference.

Ahmad had also told Gerakan to get out of BN and warned Chinese Malaysians not to mimic American Jews who not only sought to control the country's economy but also its political power. He has invoked a national backlash for his reportedly racist remarks by calling Chinese Malaysians “immigrants squatting in the country” during the Permatang Pauh by-election campaign. Meanwhile, Kampung Kolam state assemblyperson Ng Wei Aik (left) lodged a police report at the Jalan Patani station in George Town today against state Umno secretary Azhar Ibrahim for saying that the “Sin Chiew journalist ought to be shot if her article causes another May 13”. The statement was reportedly made during an earlier press conference by Ahmad, held last Friday. Ng said Azhar’s threat amounted to criminal intimidation and he wants the police to probe the Umno leader without fear or favour.

George Town OCPD Azam Abdul Hamid said the police would probe Ng’s complaint without double standards. Sin Chew Daily has stood by its article and the journalist who wrote it.

Ahmad Ismail have been giving statements that can create tensed and and effect the unity between all races which are living in a peaceful country. The latest press conference which was held yesterday where it ended up by tearing up the photo of former Penang Chief Minister, Tan Sri Dr. Koh Tsu Koon. The action can be describe as an idiotic behavior by those who are involved in it. Lately Penang UMNO have been giving press statement that can create anger and dissatisfaction, ie :-

i) Ahmad Ismail's speech included a wide range of topics such as the divide-and-rule policy of the colonial British, the immigration of Chinese and Indians to the country, May 13 racial riots, Malay special rights and privileges, the social contract, citizenship for non-Malays and New Economic Policy.

Former Bayan Lepas assemblyperson Mohd Zain asked “non-Malays to be extra careful with their deeds and words”. “Don’t disturb and push the Malays too much. Don’t think we are quiet.“We can retaliate very aggressively,” he thumped home amidst applause from supporters. (Malaysiakini News)

ii) I am surprised with the unexpected overwhelming support I had received from Malay -Muslims across the country. It seems Malays have kept back their disgruntlement for far too long and my issue had evoked their sentiments. It is going to be a major issue now(Malaysiakini)

iii) In another development, Penang Umno secretary Azhar Ibrahim has stood by his call for the Sin Chew reporter in question to “be shot” should a May 13-type racial riot breaks out. Contacted today, Azhar reiterated firmly that, “the journalist deserved to be shot if her article causes another May 13". (Malaysiakini)

iv) Tun Dr. Mahathir commented on why the Malays should apologies since Indian or Chinese political parties / leaders didn't do so for what Hindraf and Wee Meng Chee did. (Tun's Blog)

Maybe Tun don't realize that Hindraf or Wee is not a component party or BN members for the leaders / component parties to apologies. What Ahmad Ismail has done is far different from what he is trying to relate with Hindraf or Wee. Gerakan and Dr. Koh's action to cut ties with Penang UMNO is a brave drastic action and to send a message to UMNO that we dont tolerate racial Idiotic action. Well Pak Lah should be brave now to take disciplinary action on Ahmad Ismail to prevent from making the situation worse where Gerakan would have to pull out from BN. Other top level UMNO leaders have been saying that Gerakan should not leave BN since it's Ahmad Ismail personal statement. But they dont see or pretend not to see that when Ahmad have been giving his press statement where he is being flanked by all 13 Penang UMNO Division leaders, so how would that be his personal opinion?! UMNO should take disciplinary action on Ahmad immediately, if they fail to do so, Gerakan should not hesitate to pull out of BN. Well while Ahmad Ismail was busy giving his statement to make worse the situation together with other Penang UMNO leaders, we were in Batu Kawan to give press statement on the Bukit Batu Kawan hill flattening issue and the problems faced by the Batu Kawan Estate people. As we were busy with the press conference, i noticed a wooden house separated from the rows of houses in the estate. I wonder if there is electricity and water supply to this house. But i was shocked to see the Jalur Gemilang flying high in front of the wooden house. Ahmad Ismail who is being racial, owns luxury bungalow at Robina Park, Telok Air Tawar, Penang and expensive cars. While far inside the estate, people are living in peace and harmony with great respect for the country. What a shame on him.

Backed by all 13 Umno divisions from Penang, the embattled Bukit Bendera Umno division chief Ahmad Ismail today fervently defended his stand not to apologise for his alleged racist remarks against the Chinese community. All Penang Umno divisions, including Prime Minister and Umno president Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's Kepala Batas, fully supported Ahmad's stance, which erupted into a national furore over the past one week. The Penang Umno's action today came as a snub against the prime minister who had earlier urged Ahmad to make an apology.

Abdullah, who is Penang Umno chief, is scheduled to have a meeting with the division leaders tomorrow. Instead of apologising, the local Umno strongman today accused vernacular daily Sin Chiew Daily and its journalist for triggering the controversy by reporting his speech out of context, which was delivered during the recent Permatang Pauh by-election rally in Kampung Belah Dua on Aug 25. “The newspaper and reporter were the ones who should apologise to me, my family, my friends, Umno and all Malaysians for misrepresenting facts and wrongly reporting my statements,” he said, while taking a swipe at the so-called trial by media, which had publicly found him guilty without hearing his side of the story. The packed press conference was unexpectedly held under an intimidating atmosphere with the presence of some 100 Umno members, mostly from Bukit Bendera division, frequently punctuated by shouts of racial slurs and threats.

Social contract

Reading out a 16-page statement, Ahmad recollected his by-election rally speech and did not deny it contained the statement that “Chinese were immigrants squatting in this country”. However, he argued the statement was taken out of context from a lengthy speech he had delivered to a largely Malay audience at the rally. In his rally speech, Ahmad claimed he only touched on “Chinese migration to this country” when narrating Malaysia’s historical background and the social contract agreed between Malays and other races when the country attained independence. His speech included the divide-and-rule policy of the colonial British, immigration of Chinese and Indians to the country, May 13 civil riots, Malay special rights and privileges, social contract, citizenship and New Economic Policy. “What I said was a statement of facts which no one can refute. “So it’s not wrong if I were to mention those historical facts in public,” he said, while taking a swipe at all those, whom he described as “Chinese extremist leaders”, for attacking him recklessly without finding out the truth beforehand. He said even though he had clarified the contents of his speech a day after to the media, no newspapers, television channels or online portals have reported his clarification. Ahmad's statement only became a controversy after several Chinese-based political parties, notably MCA and Gerakan, began lodging a series of police reports against the Umno leader. Many have called on the Umno leadership to sack Ahmad from the party. “It is the Chinese leaders who are causing this controversy, not me. “What’s wrong if a Malay leader touched on or defended Malay rights?” asked Ahmad.

Other local Umno leaders such as state secretary Azhar Ibrahim, Bukit Mertajam division leader Musa Syeikh Fadzir and Bayan Baru division chief Mohd Zain Omar joined Ahmad to rap those who objected to Ahmad’s rally speech. Azhar blasted the relevant Sin Chiew Daily reporter as ‘idiotic’ saying that “the reporter and the newspaper should be held responsible for inciting racial hatred and conflict”. Ahmad called Gerakan acting president Dr Koh Tsu Koon as a “great liar and opportunist”, and said Gerakan can always “get out from Barisan Nasional”. He even claimed BN would not have lost in Penang in the last general election if not for the incompetency of former chief minister Koh and Gerakan. “MCA could have won more seats if not for Gerakan,” he claimed.

He accused Koh and Gerakan of seizing the opportunity by using him as a pawn to resurrect their waning credibility, position and relevance among the Chinese community. In a clear sign of defiance and internal mutiny over the controversy, Musa hit out at the Umno top leadership for apologising on behalf of the party without checking the facts with Ahmad. Deputy Prime Minister and Umno deputy president Najib Abdul Razak has already apologised over the issue to Chinese Malaysians on behalf Umno. “The national leadership can have its own stand, but Penang divisional leaders have theirs. “We fully back Ahmad on this issue,” Musa told journalists, rejecting outright Najib's apologetic gesture.

‘We can retaliate’

But the most intimidating threat came from former Bayan Lepas assemblyperson Mohd Zain, who warned “non-Malays to be extra careful with their deeds and words.” “Don’t disturb and push the Malays too much. Don’t think we are quiet. “We can retaliate very aggressively,” he thumped home amidst applause from supporters. Mohd Zain rapped Chinese and Hindus of “blowing up Muslim conversion issues out of proportion while at the same time, being quiet on Christianity conversion issues”.

Ahmad however argued that he was neither a racist nor anti-Chinese. The former municipal councillor, who is being investigated by the police under the Sedition Act 1948, said he has many Chinese friends, both personal and business, all these years. The press conference ended with a show of solidarity and strength from local Umno leaders, and shouts of ‘Hidup Melayu’ (long live Malays). Earlier in the morning, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said it was up to Umno to demonstrate its “sincerity and honesty” in dealing with the matter and taking a strong stand on Ahmad's refusal to apologise for his racist remarks. "Umno leaders must prove that they are not hypocrites by taking a stern and firm action on Ahmad," the DAP secretary-general told newsmen.

Our dear Gerkan leaders,
First of all we would like to congratulate everyone including Dr Koh Tsu Koon as Gerakan president, Deputy President Chang Ko Youn, Vice-Presidents Mah Siew Keong, Dr S. Vijayaratnam and Huan Cheng Guan and fellow Gerakan central committee members.
We would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Dr Teng Hock Nan who is now the president of the 'Chinese-controlled' Penang Gerakan.
Hence, we would clearly like to put down here that we, together with other fellow members, are totally disappointed with the way Gerakan has treated its Indian members in Penang.

Tan Sri Dr Koh and Dr Teng, we would like you to recall the meeting held among Indian leaders at our party headquarters in Penang after the 12th general election. At that particular meeting, both of you promised to give Indians more opportunities at the top level of the party.
Lately, even during the national delegates conference, you asked members to vote for all races but you failed to act. It has been proven that the top leadership of Gerakan has failed to look into making Gerakan multiracial. Being multiracial is just a political gimmick.

We would also like to touch on the press statement by Huan Cheng Guan that more chances in Gerakan should be given to Indians and the failure to appoint A Mohan to a top party post in Penang shows that the current state leadership is biased.
For your information, Mohan has been a Gerakan member for 20 years while we have been Gerakan's men for the past 28 years. Till now, Gerakan has failed to appoint any long-serving Indian to the party’s top leadership. What a shame.
We would also like to take to task the party administration and membership bureau for failing to recruit or rather failing to accept and register new Indian members. In 2005, we submitted 60 over forms for a new branch in Penang and another 300 plus forms for another branch.

But during the last branch level AGM when we checked, to my shock all of the names were missing. Indians who wanted to join Gerakan in 2005 were disappointed with the way Gerakan handled their membership applications and with the attitude of party’s top leaders.

Friends of ours who had good representation and good ground work records intended to contest for branch youth chairpersons’ posts and later at he division and state level but could not do so. This shows that Gerakan is indirectly killing the political career of capable individuals.

Everyone is thinking that our boys are Gerakan members, but it's a shame that we are actually not due to the carelessness and bad intentions of the party’s top leadership. If all these allegations of ours are not true and if the top leadership is sincere, the newly elected Penang Gerakan chairperson would have appointed Indians to top posts.

He instead gave a sarcastic statement that Indians will be appointed as certain bureau chairpersons. We are more capable than being just bureau chairperons. We are dare to say that if all membership of Indians are accepted, there will be more top Indian leaders in Gerakan today.
Whenever there is a new proposed Gerakan branch with many Indian members, the branch takes time to get approved. We’re saying this from our very own experience for we would have had our own branch since 2005 if all my submitted member applications were accepted.

Gerakan should accept the challenge by Huan Cheng Guan to recruit more non-Chinese into the national Gerakan committee as secretary-general, assistant secretary-general, treasurer and assistant treasurer and also to the central committee and central working committee.

But we bet the top Gerakan leadership including the 'de facto president' will not do this. To all my fellow Indian members, we have been saying we love Gerakan and we are Satu Hati but if the leadership now fails to make changes, we should walk out. It doesn't mean we have to jump to another party, but walking out will be a big slap for Gerakan.

It will prove to 26 million Malaysians that Gerakan has failed to prove themselves as a multiracial party. We've got offers to join some other component party from BN but our love for Gerakan is true and I hope Gerakan leaders will open their eyes once for all and make the changes.

With the young blood that has been given the mandate to lead the party’s top leadership, I hope these leaders will make the changes. Certain former and current leaders are trying to control and select their cronies for the top leadership and we have to put an end to this.

If Gerakan is not willing to appoint Indians to top posts in Penang and at the national level, then it is a clear indication that for the next general election, no state or parliament seat will be given to us.

Saudara/saudari its time for us to wake up and make a stand on this. Satu Hati.

'Racist' Teacher Deserves Sterner Lesson

The MIC Youth education bureau is irked by how a teacher who hurled stinging racial remarks at her students had been let off the hook. The 35-year-old teacher had since been transferred to a smart school located closer to her house, but the bureau argued that this was not a form of punishment at all.

"This is an issue which touches on racial sentiments. It does not involve an individual but refers to a large number of Indian students. "The teacher’s apology to the students and parents involved is not the best solution and does not diminish the gravity of her action," he said.

"Transferring (to another school) is not a form of punishment or harsh (enough) punishment for a teacher who crossed the boundaries," he added.

Police reports lodged
Earlier this month, two students from SMK Telok Panglima Garang in Hulu Langat filed police reports against the history teacher.

They revealed that the teacher had called Indian students 'keling pariah', 'Negro' and 'black monkeys', amongst other derogatory names.

In the reports, the Form Four and Form Five students said the teacher also told students during class that 'Indians came from dogs', Indians are 'children of prostitutes' and the community is 'stupid'. She also supposedly stated that the community's youths 'do not have testicles', 'always menstruate' and indulge in 'thuggery and theft'. He said the teacher had tarnished the dignity and professionalism of her profession and therefore was not qualified to be an educator. He also quoted Deputy Education Minister Dr Wee Ka Siong as saying during an interview that if the teacher was found guilty, stern action such as even dismissal would be taken.

"Transferring (her) to another school is not a stern action as promised," said Saravanan.

The education bureau chief also stated that the teacher must open apologise to all quarters through the media. He also noted that other teachers might do the same thing in order to get transfers to another school. The statement also revealed that the points raised by the bureau were endorsed by the parents and residents in the area.

Minister must explain
In a related development, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang described the incident as the latest episode to mar the 51^st Merdeka celebrations in less than three weeks time. The Ipoh Timur MP said it highlighted the many failures in nation-building despite the government budgeting tens of millions of ringgit for this occasion.

"Education Minister Hishammuddin Hussein should explain to Parliament, the nation and the voters of Permatang Pauh why the Education Ministry is condoning the unforgivable misbehaviour of a history teacher who repeatedly made racist, derogatory and even unprintable slurs against Indian students and the Indian community in class.

"By giving the delinquent teacher a "better deal" for her disgraceful misbehaviour, the Education Ministry is sending out a wrong and completely unacceptable message to all teachers as well as making a total mockery the legitimate protests of the parents and the Coalition of Malaysians Indian NGOs who had protested against the teacher's misconduct," he said in a statement.

The opposition politician also asked if Hishammuddin was unfit to demand that teachers should be exemplary model Malaysians to the new generation of students rising above race and religion when he himself has failed so miserably on this score with his three "keris-wielding" episodes.

Olympic Fireworks Faked For TV

LONDON, Aug 12 — The global television audience of more than three billion people watched in amazement as a series of giant footprints outlined in fireworks proceeded through the night sky from Tiananmen Square to the Bird's Nest stadium — except they were watching a computer animation. Even the giant television screens within the stadium itself broadcast the fake images. Stunned viewers thought they were watching the string of fireworks filmed from above by a helicopter. But in reality they were watching a 3D graphics sequence that took almost a year to produce.It even included a “camera shake” to mimic the effect of filming from a helicopter. The dupe was revealed by China's Beijing Times. Speaking to the paper, the man responsible for the animation said he was pleased with the result.

"Seeing how it worked out, it was still a bit too bright compared to the actual fireworks," Gao Xiaolong told the newspaper. "But most of the audience thought it was filmed live — so that was mission accomplished.' The designers even added some haziness to simulate the polluted Beijing skyline. Broadcasters around the world had no choice but to show the footage because it all came from one feed provided by Beijing Olympic Broadcasting — the organisation responsible for filming the games.

The ceremony has also been strongly criticised by architect Ai Weiwei, who helped design the Bird's Nest stadium. Writing on his blog, Ai described the ceremony as "a recycling of the rubbish of fake classical culture tradition; a sacrilegious visual garbage dump and an insult to the spirit of liberty; low-class sound play that's just noise pollution". He was directly critical of China's ruling communist party, characterising the ceremony as "a showcase of the reincarnation of the Marxist imperialism; the ultimate paragon of an all embracing culture of fascist totalitarianism; an encyclopaedia that encompasses total defeat in intellectual spirit." Ai helped design the stadium alongside Swiss architect firm Herzog and de Meuron. But since then, he has become an outspoken blogger against the Olympics and the Chinese regime. Unusually, he has not been censored by the authorities. The organisers said that the footprint fireworks were there for real, but thought it unsafe to try to film them — so they recreated them instead.

Bar Council Defends Decision To Hold Weekend Forum

It was supposed to be a Bar Council forum on Sedition Act but the dominant topic was Saturday's rowdy demonstration by a group of Muslim protesters who forced the Conversion to Islam forum to shut down. Panelists and participants agreed on one thing — the decision to hold Saturday's forum was right because it was timely and important to address a very problematic issue. Panelist HR Dipendra said the council should have been more careful in choosing the topic for the forum, in order not to be seen as provocative. "I checked in every blog that protested against the forum and they just talk about conversion to Islam and it ends there," said the lawyer. Although he believed there was no need for the organiser to apologise to anyone as the forum was timely and suitable, it was a question of "packaging the product".

Lecturer Wong Chin Huat saw the issue from a different perspective, arguing that the protest was a reflection of a competition among three Malay-based parties — Pas, Umno and Parti Keadilan Rakyat. He said Some leaders or members of the three parties feel the need to out-Islamise each other. While Lawyer Malik Imtiaz Sarwar who was also one of the speakers said the actions by the protesters should not be interpreted as the view of the majority, as the 300 protesters who were outside protesting do not represent the majority Muslims or Islam.

Bar Council president Datuk Ambiga Sreenivasan defended her decision to end Saturday's forum earlier, saying that the safety and security of everyone in the hall was the organiser's responsibility. On Saturday, protesters from various Muslim organisations gathered outside the Bar Council building to oppose a forum to discuss conflict in family law arising from conversion of one party to Islam. The forum which was supposed to end at 1pm abruptly ended a little before 10am. Meanwhile, Sisters in Islam issued a statement to protest the extreme actions by Muslim NGOs and political parties in halting the forum, as well as to condemn the throwing of Molotov cocktail at Ambiga's former house and planting of two kerosene bombs in front of the Bar Council office. They said such violent acts only give a bad image of Muslims and Malaysian society surely does not tolerate these extremist or terrorist actions, the police should not have bowed to the aggressive tactics that forced the abrupt termination of a peaceful and mature dialogue.

According to SIS, many Muslim lawyers and Muslim participants supported the dialogue and did not regard the forum as insulting or challenging Islam. The group also said Dr Naim Mokhtar who is Syarie Prosecutor for Federal Territory's Islamic Affairs Department and former Syariah High Court judge and Dr. Wan Azhar Wan Ahmad the Director of the Syariah Law and Political Science Centre and Senior Fellow of the Institute for Islamic Understanding of Malaysia had agreed to be the panelists for the forum but pulled out at the eleventh hour. The fact was that based on the programme, three of the five panelists were Muslims. SIS was disappointed with political parties that championed human rights and freedom of speech as they had failed to practise what they preach and they have acted against their own manifesto, promised to the people, in the last general election."

Untuk makluman Yang Berhormat Dato Seri / Yang Berhormat Dr lagi, kami sebagai pemimpin masyarakat tempatan dan juga dari ahli sebuah parti komponen BN terpakasa menjawab kepada masyarakat di peringkat akar umbi. Apalah ertinya berbangga dan bermegah dengan usaha mencapai Wawasan 2020 apabila terdapat duri dalam daging di kalangan kita yang ingin menghancurkan keamanan dan kemakmuran Negara. Kursus – kursus, iklan, seminar ‘BUDI BAHASA, BUDAYA KITA’ yang dijalankan oleh Kerajaan perlu diterapkan kepada bukan sahaja gugu – guru baru malahan kepada mereka yang sudah berkhidmat untuk sesuatu masa.

Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) led by outspoken former chief minister Yong Teck Lee today announced that it would move a noconfidence motion against Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi when Parliament resumes on Monday. The announcement was made at the party headquarters in Kota Kinabalu at 2pm. SAPP who in recent months has questioned Abdullah's policies towards Sabah and the federal government's inability to solve the illegal migrants' problems in the state. This appeared to be the opening move by the BN component member which may see the Sabah-based political party eventually leaving the coalition. Political commentators pointed out that even if the party pulled out of BN to join Pakatan, the defection of the two MPs would not be sufficient for rock Abdullah's BN. Anwar needs 30 MPs to derail Abdullah and BN from power. However, Sabah sources claim that other BN coalition partners would follow SaAPP out of BN if the party starts the exodus.

Penang Gerakan Youth chief Huan Cheng Guan has welcomed acting party president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon's decision to relinquish his post as the state chief.

He said it was time new blood took charge of the state party leadership. Huan, who is former Batu Kawan member of parliament and three term state gerakan Youth Chief, also confirmed that he was vying for the post in the coming state delegates conference in August.Huan said he had spoken to many members and they wanted change within the party, especially after the March 8 general election who have said that they prefer new young leader whereby someone who can introduce changes and bring the party to a higher level. An online survey which is being conducted by the Gerakan Youth Secretary's blog, showed that it is a tough fight between Chia Kwang Chye and Huan. Huan when commenting also said that he was confident of winning the post as he have most of the grassroots' support.

Huan Cheng Guan who is a former navy officer worked hard to reach the present position. Each and every grassroot members knows his background and his working style. Huan, who is a local born for sure is not a helicopter politician who was parachuted into the state. Huan said he believes that he can contribute invaluably to the party as the chairman in Penang. He knows that if he wins, there is a huge responsibility, which is to win back Penang and to put back Gerakan on track. Since the party needs someone who is local and willing to speak out for Penangites, than for sure, Huan is the right choice.

As for the Acting President who is vacating the post, Tan Sri Dr Koh should not favor any candidate who will be contesting the state chairman. There are certain articles by Tan Sri Dr Koh which favors Datuk Chia KC. It is time that we should let the grassroot members decide for the future leader, to lead and guide every Gerakan members, especially from this state. Tan Sri Dr. Koh should stick to his first statement that he prefers young blood to take over and more young bloods to be brought in. So let it be as it is now. The nomination for Branch level is done and election is few days away. Let all the grassroot members decide the Future Chairman Of Penang Gerakan / Penang Barisan Nasional Chairman. SATU HATI.

Future Malaysian Indian Astronout Fails To Get Support.

Malaysiakini reported that Mugilan Re Ko, an aeronautical student at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in the United States is confident that nothing can stop his dreams of becoming an astronaut by 2018. He is ready to fulfill his childhood fantasy. ie : to look down planet earth from outer space. With the support of the father who have always thought him to think big and aim big, Mugilan has another year to complete his aerospace engineering degree. The former student of SJK(T) Serdang is now working hard to materialized his dream. After completing Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations in which he scored 11 As, Mugilan pursued his studies in a local private institution to complete the American Degree Transfer Programme (ADP). Mugilan then enrolled into the top rated institute for aeronautical engineering in the United States using just his academic merits in pursuit of his ambition.

However, despite his excellent academic qualification, no scholarship grant or financial aid was given to Mugilan by the Malaysian government despite submitting numerous appeals. After finishing his ADP in 2006, he appealed to the Prime Minister, the Education Ministry, the Malaysian National Space Agency and even private companies requesting for a scholarship or at least a loan. Mugilan said it never crossed his mind to give up and strengthened his resolve to discover other alternatives instead evantough he was frustrated. He was able to secure a loan from Maju Institute of Education Development (MIED), some private funding and the father's financed the rest.

Dengan berimejkan seorang kanak kanak yang berwajah ceria dan berlatarbelakang warna biru laut, seakan memberi isyarat melambai setiap pengunjung yang menjejaki tanah Batu Kawan dengan satu janji dan harapan bahawa, kehidupan disini akan memberi nikmat hidup yang penuh kedamaian dan kesejasteraan serta dengan warisan alam semula jadi .yang lestari .

Tidak hanya sekadar ucapan “selamat Datang”, pengunjung keBatu Kawan juga dijanjikan dengan penuh harapan untuk memperolehi kehidupan yang akan memenuhi segala kebaikan dan keperluan, menerusi slogan yang dipaparkan berbunyi

PM Takes Political Risk By Increasing Fuel.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is taking risk in removing subsidies even as BN is recovering from the 12th General Election Political tsunami. Election post mo term reports showed that rumors of fuel and food price rising was one of the main reason people opted for the opposition. The raising of global fuel up to US$125 a barrel, have forced the Government to scrap the subsidy.

The government has announced that petrol price will go up by 78 sen, a 40.6 percent jump from RM1.92 per litre to RM2.70. The price of diesel will increase by a whopping 63.3 percent - from RM1.58 per litre to RM2.58. The price hikes are among government measures to drastically cut the spiralling bill for oil subsidies, which is expected to amount to RM56 billion this year. The government plans to offer rebates to motorists to offset the fuel price increase. Under the scheme, vehicles below 2000cc will receive an annual rebate of RM625 to compensate for 800 litres of fuel used under the new price. Owners of private motorcycles of engine capacity of up to 250cc will be paid a cash rebate of RM150 per year. The money will be paid by money order. Rebate will be paid when motorists renew the road tax for their vehicles.

TIPS TO SAVE FUEL
1. Keep your car tuned up. Cars in poor running condition use more gasoline

2. Plan trips well to avoid unnecessary driving.

3. When you run your air conditioner you get much worse gas mileage. Use your air conditioner sparingly. If you have a lower setting, use it. Turn it on until the car gets cool, then turn it off and let the fan circulate the cool air. Never run your air conditioner with your windows open!

4. Keep your windows closed when traveling at high speeds. Open windows cause additional drag and lower your gas mileage. At high speeds, an open window can use more gas than many air conditioners (especially if they are on a low setting).

5. Check your tire pressure . Over-inflated tires can actually reduce your fuel efficiency, so don't overfill.

6. If at all possible, change your work start time to avoid gridlock. Stop and go traffic hurts your gas mileage.

7. Try not to idle your engine for long periods of time. If you are stuck in traffic and you don't think you are going to go anywhere in the next five minutes, you may want to turn your car off.

8. You no longer need to warm your car up for long periods of time, especially new cars. New cars are made to run when cold.

9. Don't travel at fast speeds in low gears unless you need the compression to slow down.

10. Try to drive the speed limit.

11. Try to accelerate slowly when leaving the stop light. It's not a competition with the driver in the lane next to you. The fastest person through the intersection just gets to spend more on gas.

12. No need to buy the highest priced gasoline. Most cars are built to run on regular unleaded. Check you owners manual or consult a mechanic. I have had many tell me that the more expensive gas is a waste of money.

13. Revving the engine needlessly wastes gas. There is no need to rev before you turn your vehicle off.

14. If at all possible, try to arrange car pools with co-workers to share the cost of commuting to work.

15. Walk, bike or run to your intended location whenever possible.

The Star will be conducting a report card on all 5 states which are under the Pakatan Rakyat Goverment. Well i have a few questions for Mr. Guan Eng. before the election, DAP had promised heaven and wonders to the people of Penang, but nothing have been materialized.

Election Promises

1. Collection at The Toll of Sungai Dua is still on despite the Pakatan Rakyat sucessfully took over the Penang State Goverment. It was promised by DAP that the toll will be scrapped once PR takes over the state goverment.

2. Reducing of Penang Bridge Charges.
3. Special allowances for the elderly people.

Investment

1. Why there have not been any companies who have come forward to invest in Penang. Lately the 2 Japanese companies that announced they are investing in Penang, were actually planned during Dr Koh TK time. DAP are busy in finding the previous government fault, rather than finding way to take Penang into greater heights.

2. Recently Mr Guan Eng headed to Korea on a Business trip. I doubt why, Jelutong, Bukit Bendera and Bukit Mertajam MP who followed Guan Eng. Not evan one state assembly person were in the trip to Korea. Aren't there any capable state assembly person? No wonder DAP is busy fishing capable leaders from BN.

There are far many questions for Mr. Guan Eng. but let this be answered first by the Chief Minister Of Penang. For those who have questions to ask the CM, kindly email askguaneng@thestar.com.my

PSD Scholarships Should Be Given To Those Who Score On Merit

I would like to comment on Umno Youth Education Bureau Chief Ahmad Ikmal Ismail and ABIM secretary - General, Khairul Arifin Mohd Munir who have stated that the PSD scholarship for non - bumis which was increase from 10% - 45%, will effect the chances of Bumiputra to obtain scholarship. Minister in the Prime Minister Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz had announced on May 29 that there was a fairer distribution of Public Service Department scholarships for studies abroad, with 1,100 scholarships awarded to Bumiputera and 900 to non-Bumiputera students.

I feel it is time for UMNO to look into widen picture. The country surrounding us are heading towards globalization, but here we are still being harsh towards other races. It is time for UMNO to realize all their mistake and ego that have cost for the Political Tsunami at the last general election. UMNO should also realize that the Federal Goverment could only be formed if MCA, MIC and Gerakan win all their seats together with the Sabah / Sarawak political parties.

Logically, all students should not fear losing out to lesser performing candidates if they had met all the criteria set by the department. As for Outstanding bumiputera students should not worry about being deprived of scholarships if their qualifications meet the criteria set by the Public Service Department (PSD). The current PSD policy of automatically awarding scholarships to applicants who obtained 10As and above in SPM, and whose monthly family income fell below RM1,500 as announced by the prime minister in last year's budget still stands, applicants who meet this criteria need not fear losing out to lesser performing candidates. The PSD also should publish the names of those who have been given the scholarship and PSD should be more transparent and inform applying students the reasons for their rejection.

Who Will Be The Next Penang Gerakan Chairman?

With party elections from branch level is starting next month, every eye will be on the Penang Gerakan Chairman post since the current chairman Tan Sri Dr Koh TK will be heading to federal level to help rebuild Gerakan all over the country. The about to elect new chairman will be undertaking a huge and heavy responsibility to win back the heart of the people of Penang and to retain back 'The Pearl Of The Orient'. There is an online survey being conducted on the Penang Gerakan Youth Secretary blog with few names have been nominated. The survey shows that the members are interested in two candidates who are Datuk Seri Chia KC and former Batu Kawan MP, Huan CG. With Huan leading the poll on a slim vote, we can come to a conclusion that the ground level members are now interested in new blood.

With acting president already stating that he prefers new blood to lead Gerakan, well the mandate should be given to the members to decide. It is widely speculated that the Acting President is blessing his close aid, Chia KC for the post ( published in a Chinese daily ). So why play political game and confuse the members? If the Acting President wants young blood to take over, than he should not interfere in the selection of the state chairman. PDC - Hentikan Proses Memusnahkan Bukit Batu Kawan

ISU PERTAMA - PDC MENGGONDOL DAN MERATAKAN BUKIT BATU KAWAN DISEBELAH SELATAN


Keseluruhan Bukit tersebut telah digondol dan kerja kerja 
mengeluarkan tanahdan meratakannya terus berjalan seperti 
biasa. Semasa Negeri ini dikuasi oleh Kerajaan Barisan Nasional,
pembangkang iatu DAP pada masa itu pernah mempersoalkan tindakan 
tersebut dengan meletakan  kepentingan alam sekitar sebagai 
alasanya. Namun tiada siapa yang perduli. Bukit berkenaan 
terletak berhadapan dengan laut, ianya menjadi tampanan kepada 
angin rebut dan taufan yang datang dari arah laut. Tapi kini 
semuanya musnah. Pertanyaan saya, Dimanakah Jabatan Alam Sekitar?
Kemana perginya mereka yang sering berseminar dan bercakap tentang 
kepentingan alam sekitar? Semuanya menjadi bisu.

ISU KEDUA – PDC MENGOREK DAN MENGGONDOLKAN BUKIT BATU KAWAN DI BAHAGIAN UTARA

Kerja mengorekan dan meratakan bukit sedang rancak dijalankan dan adaketikanya sehingga kepukul 11.00 malam. Tanah tersebut dikeluarkan untukProjek Penang Science Park di Seberang Perai Tengah. Apa yang lebih malang dan sangat mendukacitakan ialah dibahagian bawahnya terletak Kampung Masjid Batu Kawan. Kedudukan bukit berkenaan adalah berhadapan dengan kuala sungai , kedudukannya menjadi tampanan kepada angin rebut yang datang dari arah kuala sungai. Apakah Projek Penang Science Park dan Para Pelabur dari Jepun atau pihakkontraktor itu lebih penting dari warga Malaysia diKampung Masjid BatuKawan, maka PDC tidak perlu memandang walau sebelah mata terhadap maklukdisitu. Apakah tiada lansung pihak yang prihatin dan bertangungjawap untuk turut berasa bersalah serta tersentuh akal budi mereka untuk sama sama merasai masalah tersebut. Kemana perginya slogan masyarakat penyayang, kemana hilangnya kempen Cintai Alam Sekitar, dimana lenyapnya semangat dankesedaran Sambutan Hari Bumi yang baru sahaja disambut seluruh dunia.

ISU KETIGA – PULIHARA BUKIT BATU KAWAN SEBAGAI KAWASAN PELANCONGAN

Terdapat banyak misteri dan perkara yang masih lagi belum diterokai di Bukit Batu Kawan.

Surendran, filed the application on the grounds that he was being limited and denied from getting medical treatment for his diabetic condition and was not sent to the National Heart Institute (IJN) for his heart problem. thayakumar, 46, claimed that around mid-February the medication given to him by his fiancee S. Indradevi had run out, and he asked the detention centre officials for the medication which had been prescribed by the Taiping General Hospital.

Uthayakumar claimed that the officials refused to entertain his request and forced him to request to meet the detention centre director six times to facilitate his family to supply the medication. Surendran filed the writ of habeas corpus at the High Court Registry in the Courts Complex in Jalan Duta here at about 11.30 am. Uthayakumar's mother, G. Kalaivani, his fiancee S. Indradevi and Kapar Member of Parliament S. Manikavasagam were with Surendran. Uthayakumar and four others, lawyers M. Manoharan, 46, V. Ganabatirau, 34, R. Kenghadaran, 40, and former bank officer K. Vasantha Kumar, 40, are being detained under the ISA.

However Bernama reported that Uthayakumar received medical treatment 10 times until April 14 at government hospitals and clinics since being detained at the Kamunting detention centre in Taiping last November. The Prisons Department in a statement said he was also supplied with various types of medicine for his diabetic condition. The department issued the statement in response to allegations from some quarters that he was being denied proper medical treatment. It said early this month, the home minister had also given permission for Uthayakumar to be brought to the Penang Hospital and the National Heart Institute to undergo health checks by experts.

I would like to refer to the New Strait Times Article dated 24^th April 2008 (http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/NST/Thursday/National/2222108/Article/index_html ) that the former MP of Batu Kawan, had failed to serve the people of Batu Kawan on issues such as high level of poverty, frequent flash floods and lack of proper amenities for estate workers in the area, which had been pending for quite some time.

The DAP Rep should bear in mind that the former MP together with the service team had given all out for the community. We can definitely say the services we contributed to the community, there would not have any other candidate would have ever done in such a problematic area. First of all let everyone should know that all three states ( Perai, Bukit Tengah, Bukit Tambun ) were under the opposition for Parliament. For Perai it fell under Bagan Parliament Constituency, Bukit Tengah under Bukit Mertajam Parliament Constituency and Bukit Tambun under Nibong Tebal Parliament Constituency.

When Huan Cheng Guan was elected as the MP, there were many pending issues that were need to be solve which ranked from community, welfare, schools, drainage, crime and so many more to be listed out. We only had 3 years to solve all this problems. Im sure for the time period given, we have performed well. Below we list out few of our major issues that we have solved.

1. Rebuilding Of Perai St Mark School
This school has been facing flood problems for the last 16 years and is in a bad shape. This problem, was also raised up in the Kawasan Saya RTM program. After our interference and effort going up and down for a few times to Putrajaya, we finally will be starting off with the new building construction on the 22^nd May 2008.

2. Chai Leng Park Market
The market was abandoned after the contractor left the project half way. Huan manage to apply for allocation from the Housing and Local government Ministry to rebuild the new market.

3. Management Problems At Bandar Perai Jaya
The ineffectiveness in the maintenance have caused so many problems to the Taman Teluk Indah flats such as power disconnection, lift problems and etc. We manage to get the Works Ministry for new lifts and had been working closely with the Persatuan Pemilik & Peniaga Megamall Pinang to form the Joint management Body ( JMB ) to run the management of the flat. It was our effort to help replace new lift and to form JMB.

4. Police Station
We had numerous dialog session not only with Penang Chief Police Officer but also with the OCPD. We had so many awareness programs and anti theft seminars. We manage to setup a new police station at Taman Chai Leng and a Police Bit at Taman Inderawasih. We were also the forst to make Balai Polis Perai as Independent where those who report at Perai would not need to go to IPD SPt ( Bandar Perda ) to meet the Investigation Officer ). Balai Perai was the first to do so. This effort was taken after receiving the suggestion from the public during our dialogue session with the Police Force.

5. Funds For Chinese / Tamil / Mission Schools
We have allocated funds for SJK tamil Perai, Ladang Prye and Ladang Valdor for upgrading and building new blocks. This cant be denied. As for the Valdor school we have been working on with the education ministry. There were also funds for Chinese schools not only for activities but also for upgrading purpose.

6. Simpang Ampat Flood Problem
We was working closely with the Drainage and Irrigation Department and the Land Office to solve the flood problem. This problem was solved after we cleaned and deepened the river at the surrounding area. We were together with the community up to 3-4am and return back at 9am every day to monitor the situation in Kampung Baru and Batu Kawan.

7. Welfare & Community
Our action speaks for all we have done and there is no one who can question our sincere effort. Other than giving out financial aids we had been supporting in all kind of aspect to those in need. There are so many community halls that were upgraded as in Taman Kimsar, Kampung Manis, Taman Teluk Indah, Bukit Tengah, Juru, Dataran Sembilang, and many more to be listed out.

There are far too many to be listed out. Other than attending 10-15 events per day at the constituency, Huan and the whole service team phone are available for 24 hours. Huan use to attend almost all Parliament sitting and attend to the people’s problem.We are dare to challenge the DAP MP to check on our record and for sure we will be monitoring all action, service, state sitting and parliament sitting of the elected Rep of the current Bagan & Batu Kawan MP.

Makkal Osai Publication's Permit Approved

The government today changed its decision just a week after banning Makkal Osai by approving it's publishing permit today. Makkal Osai's GM M.Periasamy today told that he renewed the permit after receiving a letter from the ministry in the morning stating that his appeal has been approved. He said that no conditions have been set for the renewal of the permit. He thanked the government and the ministry for the approval and also thanked it's readers for their continued support. He also said that he met with Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar two days ago to submit the appeal letter and to explain their stand. He added that the Syed Hamid Albar did not explain why the permit was not renewed earlier but only said generally that all newspapers should maintain racial harmony.

Syed Hamid said the decision to allow the newspaper to continue publishing was based on looking after the interests of the paper's employees and that they are supporting so many people and Makkal Osai assure to follow by the guidelines and will contribute to the nation building efforts. He continue saying that their request is reasonable and it was renewed yesterday. The minister also said that his ministry was not pressured to act or came under pressure. The Home Ministry acted on the interest of the country. Makkal Osai will now continue to report on issues relating to the Indian community.

Should Anwar Ibrahim Form The Cabinet By September 2008?

Well many things is being mentioned now and have created tensed at the ground level. No doubt those who have invested no matter in a big or small scale is now keeping their finger crossed and wondering what will the situation be in few months to come. It is believe foreign investors are keeping close watch on Malaysia on its current political situation. As we all know, Datuk Sri Anwar Ibrahim ( DSAI ) have been going all out too influence the people of Sabah & Sarawak with empty promises. With 5 states under the beg and the manifesto that was promised is yet to be seen, DSAI is promising heaven and wonders too woo not only the people but the elected MP.

I personally feel that, the people of Malaysia have given BN a slim mandate. They have given a well balanced government with about 80 Opposition leaders. The question is why don't DSAI wait for the next general election to see if the community really prefers the Pakatan Rakyat to rule Federal? Its fair for Malaysians to see if BN will really perform well this time. The Rakyat deserves and they can wait till the next general election to decide. If DSAI were to say that it is the BN MP's who are coming forward to jump, that not only DSAI but the BN MP's also should always bear in mind that, those MP's are mere 'WAKIL RAKYAT". They are those who elected by the voters and they represent 40-50 thousand voters. They should realize that their personal decision will break the heart of those in their constituency. So why create trouble and tensed. Why dont all parties wait till the next general election and let the Rakyat decide on their wakil and who to lead the Federal Government. If DSAI is so confident that the Sabah & Sarawak MP's would cross over, than just wait for the next election and let the people decide.

40 tamil Schools To Undergo For Repairing

Works Minister Mohd Zin Mohamed announced today that the tender to repair 40 Tamil schools nationwide worth RM 41.5 million under the Ninth Malaysian Plan will be open for bidding by May this year and the work is expected to begin by July. Out of the 40 schools, 31 will include the development of additional buildings and the remaining will undergo infra-structural upgrades. RM30 million out of the total budget has been allocated and approved by the Finance Ministry. 10 schools from Selangor anr the remaining from other states will benifit from this approval. Another RM 11.5 million by The Education Ministry will undergo upgrading and reparation projects of nine schools while six others will receive additional buildings like canteens and toilets.

“ Reinvent ” Penang Gerakan

With Lee KC already stabbing the party, Gerakan now have to ‘Reinvent’ itself to boost the image of the party not only in Penang but through out the nation. Tan Sri Dr. Koh TK who have been leading the state Gerakan will now leave to concerntrate on the National level. No doubt that the people have rejected the leaders due to lack of ideas, failing in their respective portfolios and other reasons where there are too many to be listed out.

There are members who are commenting that present leaders have good repo and communication between the Gerakan members but thet failed to be friendly to the public who are the voters and that have caused the downfall. To ‘Reinvent’ Gerakan, the first action should be by bringing in new blood to join Gerakan. Second youth leaders should be given the chances to lead the Gerakan. Third the Indian members should be given chances to head and lead the party. There are Indian members who are capable but were not given the chances.

Back to the topic, to ‘Reinvent’ Penang Gerakan by giving the leadership to the yoths will not only boost the image of Gerakan, but it will definitely give the them a chances to bring new changes. Present leaders have been in the top level for quite some time and they have failed. Is it wise for them to give way for young leaders to start fresh and with new idea. The people of Penang are for sure expecting not only new faces but aggressive, brilliant, outspoken leader.

From my point of view, cureent youth leader who is capable, with no doubt is the Gerakan Youth Chairman, Huan Cheng Guan. No one can deny his commitment as an MP who spoke out on issues effecting the community as an opposition member on cases like the Perai St Mark School, Chai Leng Park Market, Simpang Ampat Flood and many more. His commitment to the people of his constituency, the heart to serve people, his ground work and his repot, for sure was among the best among all Gerakan MP or State Assemblyperson. Reinvent Gerakan, by giving chances to youths and let them win back the state.

Gerakan Should Take Action on Lee KC

12th General Election created many shocks and disbelieve when top guns and leaders who gave their full heart for the community, lost. Well things have been said, reasons have been listed out, meetings and post mortem have been held and discussed. The party leadership is now determined to win back the heart of the people and to retain the seats that were lost. Well Party leaders like Tan Sri Dr. Koh Tsu Koon and Penang Gerakan Youth Chairman, Huan Cheng Guan have been visiting to the ground to meet people and leaders at grass root level in respective of race to rebuild Gerakan.

The action taken by Lee Kah Choon definitely has taken aback all members of Gerakan on his selfish action. Few days after the election Lee KC had called up Party Adviser Sdra Lim Keng Yeik to help rebuild the party and his promise to give his best, had gone down to the drain. No doubt his action now have caused stir not only among Gerakan but also DAP. There could be dissatisfaction between Lee KC and the party pior to the General Election or other reason, but rather than placing him first, Lee KC should have place the party 1st in his heart. I wonder how could he perform and give his 100% commitment when now he can be categorize as a person who is not firm, un reliable and selfish. Evan DAP would not have their full trust in him. For sure deep down their heart there will be doubt and suspicion.

Lee Kah Choon's action to turn back the Party and Barisan should not just let go. The CWC should take action against him. I do agree to certain parties that it is Lee KC personal wish to choose what he would want to do. But as a top leader, his action for sure would have disappointed his supporters, BN supporters, Gerakan Members and the Penang people who still loves BN. Leaders should always bear in mind that they don’t belong to their individual voice, but they represent voices of the people. Gerakan and Penang BN should take action against Lee KC for his failure to stand together with the party and disappointing the supporters.

Release HINDRAF 5.

I would like to expressed concern over the continued detention of five leaders of the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) who are P Uthayakumar, M Manoharan, V Ganabatirau, R Kenghadharan, and T Vasanthakumar., under the Internal Security Act (ISA). The voters have sent in a clear message especially they are totally dissatisfied with the way BN had been treating the Indian community during the last election. We cant deny the failure of MIC and its leaders on championing our rights.

Now its no point on discussing and talking on what had already happen. Let bygones be bygones. Its time for us to look forward to retain back the 5 states ( Kelantan, Kedah, Penang, Perak and Selangor ) and also to secure more Parliament seats. Not only ground work, projects and programs that can win the heart of the people back. Well, national issues should also taken into consideration by solving them as soon as possible.

No doubt that the arrest by the Hindraf 5 are mere base on doubt and suspicion rather than charging them on court by providing facts and proof. The victory of Manogaran at the State seat with a whooping majority shows that the people disagree that Hindraf is a threat to National Security. It is the right time for the Prime Minister and Home Ministry to immediately release these detainees. This for sure will give back the confidence to the public on the BN stand that we are transparent and we care for the community. The longer the they are arrested and kept under ISA the more effects that will cause BN since Pakatan Rakyat have manipulated the real coause of Hindraf by dragging it into political agenda.

It was a great move by Home Minister Datuk Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar to allow Vasanthakumar to visit their sick daughter, Vishaleny at the Cheras Medical Center. The call by Gerakan, MIC and MCA to release the Hindraf 5 should be taken in a serious note necause it is the voices of the component party. Therefore, the relevant Ministry should immediately release the Hindraf detainees.

Home Minister Should Lift Ban Immediately.

The government should immediately lift the ban on Makkal Osai. I disagree with the decision by the Home Ministry to reject the renewal of Makkal Osai's publishing permit without stating any relevant reasons.The newspaper was reporting based on facts, the Home Ministry does not have a valid reason to stop renewing the publishing permit for any newspaper. If there is any news that were publish was sensitive issues which can threaten racial harmony, than Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar should seek legal action instead of banning the daily. The Home Ministry have not stated any reason for the ban. Even though the minister has legal powers, it is most unfair to reject their application without stating solid reason. The ministry should at least state the reasons clearly whether the newspaper has violated the Printing Presses and Publications Act, Sedition Act, Official Secrets Act or Internal Security Act. The license is wise to be restored because of the future of its employees are at stake but also to let know the community that we do practice press freedom. Its very sad that such a thing has happened,Makkal Osai is the heartbeat of the Tamil readers and they have been providing the community with issues relating to the Indians. This is unfair and this move will only anger the Indian community.

Elected State Cabinet members, Resign As MP !

I fully agree with the suggestion by certain parties that have asked State Cabinet Members to resign as MP to give way for other Individuals. This will enable the State elected rep to give 100% performance and the new candidate can fully concentrate on parliament sitting. As for Penang, Lim Guan Eng, Chow Kon Yeow & Prof Ramasamy have a huge task on their shoulder to be done. The people of Penang have given them the mandate and im sure its time for DAP to pay it back by showing that they are willing to give way for new faces so that they can bring up the voice of people in parliament. These elected state level minister will fail to perform at the parliament level when they are busy solving and attending state related issues.

The rep from Penang should realize that they have a far important task to carry out in state than sitting down at the parliament with the backbenchers. It would not only be weired for a Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister to sit at the backbencher, but they will be neglecting their job at the state level. If they were to focus on the state work, than they will fail to perform in parliament. I would like to challenge them to relinquish their post as Member of Parliament to give way for a new candidate. DAP need not afraid to loose their seat since Political tsunami have given them a huge mandate and they can be confident of retaining the seats in the by - election. Is DAP willing to face the fact and accept the challenge for an by - election?

Can members of parliament exercise their duties as expected of them when they are also members of state cabinets? After the March 8 polls, five states fell to the opposition where a considerable number of candidates stood and won at both state and Parliament levels. Presently seven members of parliament from Penang, Perak and Selangor are either state executive councillors or heads of their respective state governments. Academic Dr Kua Kia Song believes that such elected representives are likely to prioritise their state duties while relegating their responsibilities in Parliament.

“In the old days, contesting for both state and Parliament was sort of a insurance policy - if they don’t get into Parliament, they is still a chance to get elected into the state legislative assembly,” explains Kua, who is a former MP from the DAP. Former Kelana Jaya MP Loh Seng Kok believes that such a trend will produce MPs who cannot dedicate themselves fully to their duties in Parliament.

“If you're both a state exco and MP, definitely you cannot fully concentrate on everything. As an MP, you have to attend committee meetings, briefings and other matters. “If such meetings clash with state exco duties or state assembly sittings, how do you divide your time?” asked Loh, who has the distinction of having a full attendance record in Parliament during the 11th session of Parliament.

Resign as MP

Kua believes that voters did not fathom such an outcome when they cast their ballots. However, he believes that the candidates themselves should also be responsible for the present scenerio. “It's not just a case of voters being shortchanged. This is also a greedy mentality of politicians who prioritise their careers before their constituents,” he said.

In the case of DAP for example, Kua pointed out that the party had enough qualified state assemblypersons to fill state government posts and need not had appointed those who are also MPs. Both Kua and Loh agreed when asked if an MP should resign and concentrate on their state affairs because they are still unfamiliar with the running of a state government.

KERTAS KERJA CADANGAN SERTA GARIS PANDUAN BAGI KAWASAN & AHLI JPPP.

1.0 Pendahuluan.
Usaha yang dibuat oleh Kementerian Pembangunan Luar Bandar & Wilayah di dalam menubuhkan Jawatankuasa Penyelaras Pembangunan Persekutuan bagi memberi khidmat bakti kepada masyarakat sudah pasti akan memainkan peranan yang penting di dalam memberi semula kepercayaan kepada mereka terhadap Barisan nasional.

Setiap kawasan JPPP dan Ahli perlu memainkan peranan yang penting di dalam merealisasikan impian Barisan Nasional bagi merampas semula setiap negeri yang kini berada dibawah Kerajaan Pakatan Rakyat.

Ahli – ahli yang akan dilantik perlu lebih konsisten, bertanggungjawab, mempunyai kredibiliti yang tinggi, mempunyai sifat kepimpinan dan mempunyai minat serta semangat untuk melaksanakan tanggungjawab yang diberikan dengan ikhlas dan bukannya sekadar menjawat jawatan tersebut bagi tujuan ‘publicity’, ‘egoistic’ dan untuk menghancurkan lagi kepercayaan masyarakat tempatan. Terdapat ahli – ahli JKKK yang sebelum ini memegang Jawatan telah gagal di dalam melaksanakan tugas yang diberikan sebaliknya lebih berminat untuk mencetuskan pergaduhan dan ketidak puasan di kalangan ahli – ahli Jawatankuasa. Semua pihak perlu akur dan sedar bahawa tindak tanduk sedemikian akan memburukkan serta menghancurkan lagi BN serta kepercayaan rakyat terhadap BN.

Sudah tiba masanya setiap ahli BN sedar bahawa mereka juga bertanggungjawab terhadap kekalahan BN kerana gagal di peringkat akar umbi. Apa gunanya kita mahu perubahan drastik di peringkat atasan apabila kekotoran yang tercalit di muka kita ( di peringkat akar umbi ) belum lagi dibersihkan. Sekiranya pemimpin bawahan telah melakukan tugas dan tanggungjawab sebagai Ahli JKKK sebelum ini dengan betul, sudah pasti kekalahan teruk BN tidak timbul. Adalah wajar sekiranya kita berhenti menunding jari dan kini bersama – sama melangkah kehadapan untuk kejayaan akan datang.

1.0 Matlamat.

Berusaha mendekati Masyarakat untuk mengembalikan semula kepercayaan dan dalam masa yang sama menjadi pendengar kepada masalah-masalah yang di hadapi dan akan berusaha sedaya mampu mengatasi masalah yang di hadapi melalui bantuan Jabatan – Jabatan Kerajaan & Kementerian.

2.0 Objektif.

2.1 Mendedahkan Komuniti dalam Kawasan Perai kepada tugas-tugas seorang Ahli JPPP dalam menjalankan amanah dan tanggungjawab terhadap Masyarakat.

2.2 Mewujudkan hubungan baik antara ke dua-dua pihak agar kepercayaan yang hilang dapat dipupuk semula bagi menawan semula kesemua Negeri Pakatan Rakyat.

2.3 Terdapat banyak masalah dan isu – isu yang belum diselesaikan, setiap ahli JPPP perlu memainkan peranan bagi mengatasi dan menyelesaikan perkara – perkara tersebut.

3.0 Pelantikan

4.1 Kuasa Pelantikan

- Kuasa pelantikan setiap Ahli JPPP boleh dilakukan seperti Pelantkan Ahli JKKK iaitu melalui Ketua – Ketua Bahagian. Tetapi Ketua – Ketua Bahagian perlu mendapatkan maklumat serta profile setiap Individu yang ingin dilantik bagi memastikan setiap Ahli yang bakal dilantik adalah mereka dari golongan yang berkelayakan dan dapat diterima oleh masyarakat.

4.2 Had Umur

Had umur perlu ditetapkan dan lebih banyak pemuda yang mempunyai latar belakang pendidikan dan kepakaran komputer perlu dilantik. Situasi terkini untuk mempunyai wakil JPPP yang mempunyai pengalaman politik atau kerja – kerja kemasyarakatan sudah tidak dapat diperaktikan lagi. Masyarakat tempatan lebih berminat terhadap muka – muka baru dan golongan muda.

4.3 Keputusan Muktamad

Keputusan muktamad setiap Ahli Kawasan JPPP perlu diserahkan kepada Pengerusi Barisan Nasional kawasan tersebut. Ini bagi memastikan hanya calon – calon yang berkelayakan dilantik menjadi Ahli JPPP.

4.4 Pelantikan Exco

JPPP kali ini perlu dilantik bukan sahaja Pengerusi, Setiausaha dan Bendahari, sebaliknya seperti Jawatankuasa lain dengan melantik Timbalan Pengerusi dan Penolong Setiausaha. Ini bagi memastikan tugas – tugas dapat diagihkan dan lebih banyak perkara yang dapat dipantau.

4.5 Publicity / Makluman

Semua senarai wakil JPPP perlu diedar di setiap kawasan bagi memastikan setiap penduduk di kawasan tertentu dapat menghubungi wakil JPPP sekiranya terdapat sesuatu masalah. Kerajaan boleh mengiklankan nama – nama wakil JPPP dengan No Tel dan Email di dalam beberapa akhbar tempatan agar maklumat penubuhan Jawatankuasa ini akan sampai ke peringkat akar umbi.

4.6 Penubuhan Jawatankuasa Pemantauan JPPP Peringkat BN Bahagian

Sebuah Jawatankuasa kecil di bawah Pengerusi BN Bahagian bagi memastikan setiap JPPP di kawasan tersebut berfungsi dan setiap ahli melakukan tugas dan tanggungjawab yang diberikan.

1.0 Fungsi Kawasan JPPP & Ahli JPPP

5.1 Wakil Taman Perumahan

Setiap wakil bagi kawasan taman perumahan perlu memantau dan turun ke padang untuk mencari masalah yang dihadapi dan yang perlu diselesaikan dengan segera. Terdapat beberapa JKKK kawasan sebelum ini yang tidak melantik ahli – ahli bagi setiap kawasan perumahan. Ini telah menyukarkan penduduk untuk mencari wakil atau pemimpin masyarakat ketika terdapat masalah.

5.2 Email

Setiap ahli yang dilantik perlu mempunyai alamat email sendiri agar sebarang urusan dapat dilakukan melalui email. Ahli yang mempunyai kepakaran komputer perlu mempuyai blog sendiri bagi memberi maklumat terkini dan memaklumkan tugas – tugas yang telah diselesaikan.

5.3 Mencari Maklumat Tambahan

Pengerusi dan Setiusaha perlu rajin dalam mendapatkan maklumat – maklumat terkini seperti Tekun, Bantuan Pertanian, Bantuan Pelajaran, Peluang Jawatan kosong Di Agensi Kerajaan, program – program terkini yang dilaksanakan oleh kementerian – kementerian untuk disalurkan kepada lain - lain Ahli JPPP agar ia sampai ke peringkat akar umbi.

Pengerusi dan setiausaha bersama ahli JPPP boleh melakukan tugas tambahan seperti memantau harga barangan agar maklumat dapat disalurkan kepada KPDN dan juga melibatkan diri di dalam aktiviti – aktiviti sekolah. Ini secara tidak langsung dapat mendekati ibu bapa dan maklumat – maklumat penting dapat disalurkan.

5.4 Penubuhan Biro – Biro

Biro – biro boleh diwujudkan di bawah setiap Kawasan JPPP. Ahli – ahli bagi setiap Biro tersebut boleh dilantik oleh Pengerusi Biro dari NGO – NGO dan senarai nama tersebut boleh dikemukakan di dalam mesyuarat JPPP Kawasan tersebut untuk pengesahan.

5.5 Pusat Khidmat

Setiap Kawasan JPPP boleh membuka pusat khidmat sekali dalam 2 minggu di dewan atau rumah Pengerusi / Setiausaha agar penduduk dapat berjumpa dengan wakil kawasan sekiranya terdapat sesuatu masalah atau wakil taman perumahan sukar untuk ditemui sekiranya ada masalah.

5.6 Tugas Ahli JPPP

Sebagai Ahli JPPP, mereka mempunyai kuasa untuk menguhubungi agensi yang berkenaan untuk menyelesaikan masalah. Setiap Ahli JPPP perlu menyelesaikan masalah di kawasan masing – masing dan memberi laporan bertulis kepada Jawatankuasa pada setiap mesyuarat bulanan. Buat ketika ini ramai Ahli JKKK yang menunggu sehingga mensyuarat bulanan untuk memaklumkan kepada Pengerusi / Setiausha untuk menyelesaikan sesuatu masalah.

Rebuilding Of S.K St. Mark Perai

Sekolah Kebangsaan St Mark Perai was founded in 1936. The school which is under the B Grade of The Ministry Of Education Is Waiting for approval to rebuild the school. A new building committee was set up under the patronage of the Former Batu Kawan MP, Huan Cheng Guan and myself as the Vice Chairman . The proposal was handed over to the Minister of Education and 6 Related Departments on last year ( by hand ) and we have not received any feedback. Our first trip to Putrajaya was on December 2006 and On the 1st week of September 2007. Together with a few friends, I went down to Putrajaya to submit the proposal for the second time. The school started facing flood problems since the surrounding area was developed by the unconcerned developer, Prima Perai Sdn Bhd.

With Apartments, Shop lots, Supermarkets and a upcoming 5 Star hotel, it have caused the shool to be on a lower ground. Whenever it rains, Evan for an hour, the whole school gets flooded causing the school session to be called off. While waiting for the school to be renovated, YB. Huan allocated some fund for the school compound to be raised and 2 pump to be fixed which now has clearly solve the flood problem temporarily.

We have received funds from Malayan Sugar Manufacturing Co Perai ( RM 100k ), Kuok Foundation ( RM 100k ) and From the Education Ministry through Huan ( RM 100k ). Our last meeting which was held on 1st April 2008 have decided that we will be starting up to build the first 2 blocks and the washroom which will be built by the Lions Club. We will be applying to the Education Ministry for the 3rd time to rebuild the 1st block into double story. I and my team will be heading down to Putrajaya by end of this month.

Batu Kawan BN To Continue Services For The Community

The Batu Kawan Barisan Nasional will continue it's services for the people of the Batu Kawan Parliament Constituency. Headed by former Batu Kawan MP, Huan Cheng Guan who is also the Batu Kawan BN Chairman, Penang Barisan Nasional / PGRM Youth Chairman, we will be operating our service center as usual. A task force team will be formed to get to the the grassroot level to tackle the problems. I together with other service team members will be getting down to the ground. Our new service team and bureau have been finalised and will be announced soon.

Tamil Schools In Batu Kawan

There are four tamil schools in Batu Kawan Parliament Constituency which are Perai, Ladang Prye, Ladang Batu Kawan and Ladang Valdor and also a Mission school, SK St Mark Perai wherby all this school are partly aided schools under the Ministry of Education. Our office had been giving support for these schools since the last 4 years. Other than working out to rebuild the schools of Ladang Valdor, Ladang Batu Kawan and St Mark Perai, we have been allowcating these schools with funds from RM 30k up to RM 100k for the purpose of renovation.

In 2004 the students of SJKT Ladang Valdor had to use the school canteen as classroom due to lack of classroom. Former MP Huan donated to build 2 classrooms for the school students. We have been giving tremandous support for partly aided schools in this area, let it be financially or moral support.

Gerakan To Continue Struggle

Gerakan will continue its struggle to win the hearts of the people. Headed by Gerakan Acting President Tan Sri Dr. Koh Tsu Koon as the key man to rebuild the fallen empire with the help of Huan Cheng Guan as the Penang Barisan Nasional / Penang Gerakan Youth Chairman and Batu Kawan Service team members. Gerakan are going back to the party's non-racial approach, take care of the people's needs, make the party relevant to young people and look closely at what is right and wrong and act according.

Gerakan had its meeting which saw delegates calling for the leadership to be more vocal in voicing the needs of the people and for the party to renew itself. Although the party will be celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, Gerakan will not throw a bash. Instead, it will be in soul-searching mode as it looks to consolidate the party.

"The next decade is going to be challenging for the party and we hope by our 50th anniversary, we can regain our place in politics," Koh said. He added that there was a need for a new Gerakan to emerge, to be a driver of reforms within the Barisan Nasional coalition.

Koh said Gerakan would like to play the role of reformer within the BN. "Our immediate plan is to re-motivate and remobilise members. Many were in shock for a week as they could not believe what had happened." On calls by delegates for the party to bring forward its elections, he said they would get feedback from the grassroots nationwide before making a decision. The party had postponed its polls to next year.

On the party's lack of cabinet representation, which may hamper its efforts to get its views across to the coalition, he said he had proposed to the Barisan chairman and deputy chairman to have monthly BN supreme council and management committee meetings to discuss national issues. He also suggested that working committees be formed at central and division levels to enable everyone in BN to work together."I will also call on the prime minister, his deputy and the ministries to voice out issues affecting the people."

Batu Kawan, Lagenda yang tersembunyi

Sejarah Ringkas
Dipercayai, Batu Kawan sebuah pulau kecil di Pulau Pinang, menjadi persinggahan pertama Kapten Francis Light sebelum beliau ke Pulau Jerjak dan selepas itu ke Pulau Pinang. Batu Kawan adalah antara Bandar awal yang tertua di Pulau Pinang. Batu Kawan kaya dengan sejarahnya yang terkubur sejak zaman penjajahan British lagi. Terdapat bukti serta fakta yang menunjukkan bahawa penempatan manusia di kawasan Batu Kawan termasuk di Kawasan Prai telah bermula seawal tahun 1700 lagi. Batu Kawan pada ketika itu dikenali sebagai 'Batucawan' sementara Prai dikenali sebagai Praya. Sungai Perai pula dikenali sebagai 'Praya Creek' sementara sungai di Batu Kawan dinamakan sebagai Batucawan Creek.

Penduduk-penduduk yang tinggal di Batu Kawan dan Bukit Tambun berulang alik melalui sampan pada ketika itu. Begitu juga bagi penduduk- penduduk di sekitar Kawasan Prai & Butterworth. Sungai Prai menjadi laluan utama bagi warga British untuk berhubung dengan pekerja - pekerja ladang getah di Kawasan Prai serta ladang tebu di Batu Kawan. Laluan sungai itu juga digunakan untuk membawa keluar hasil ladang seperti rempah ratus, chengkeh, tebu, kelapa dan getah ke pelabuhan. Di Batu Kawan masyarakat majmuk telah wujud sejak tahun 1800 an lagi. Kampung Melayu, Estate dan Bukit Tambun di diami oleh masyarakat berbilang kaum. Tok Pawang Haji yang menetap di Batu Kawan pada awal tahun 1800 lagi dipercayai daripada kaum kerabat diraja. Pusara beliau di Batu Kawan masih dijaga dengan baik oleh kaum keluarga beliau. Peta yang dilukis pada tahun 1840 yang menunjukkan Kawasan Batu Kawan dan Perai dapat dilihat di Muzium Negeri Pulau Pinang.

Penjajahan British
Prai dipercayai menjadi ‘base’ atau pusat utama British ketika menjajah atau menguasai Seberang Perai ( atau lebih dikenali dengan nama Province Wellesley pada ketika itu ) termasuk Batu Kawan. Pegawai atasan British menetap di Prai Estate ( Ladang Getah ketika itu ). Sebelum Bandar Penas dimajukan, terdapat 3 rumah bunglow milik orang British. Selain daripada buruh tempatan, ramai buruh dibawa dari Negara India bagi mengusahakan projek – projek pertanian. Kemudahan – kemudahan asas seperti Kuil dan sekolah yang dibina pada ketika itu masih dapat dilihat sekarang.

Bukit Batu Kawan
Selain daripada itu, Bukit Batu Kawan dipercayai mempunyai pelbagai sejarah yang tersembunyi. Selain daripada tangga seribu ke puncak bukit, “ The Minister’s House ” yang di diami oleh pegawai British, laluan kuda yang digunakan oleh pegawai British, Gereja dan juga kubur orang Inggeris. Terdapat juga sebuah lokasi di bukit tersebut yang sering mengeluarkan aroma yang cukup wangi sehingga sekarang dipecayai daripada tanaman herba. Kawasan tersebut dinamakan Taman Wangi oleh penduduk Batu Kawan.

Gua Komunis, Bukit Batu Kawan
Batu Kawan pernah di diami 20 orang Komunis yang pernah menetap di puncak bukit tersebut sekitar tahun 1952 di dalam sebuah Gua yang dinamakan Gua Komunis. Mereka dikatakan sering turun ke Kampung untuk meminta makanan dan pernah membunuh seorang Penghulu pada ketika itu.

Tangga Seribu ( The Thousand Steps )
Segelintir penduduk tempatan Batu Kawan mengetahui mengenai kewujudan Tangga Seribu yang dibina di Bukit Batu Kawan. Tangga tersebut dibina ke puncak bukit tersebut dan turun semula ke kaki bukit di sebaliknya. Tangga tersebut dipercayai dibina oleh pemilik kuari yang kaya sekitar 200 tahun dahulu. Sebuah perkampungan pernah wujud di puncak bukit tersebut yang berada pada paras ketinggian 776 kaki dari paras laut. Tangga seribu ini dibina untuk penduduk perkampungan tersebut. Kini tangga tersebut ditimbus tanah dan hanya sebahagian daripada tangga dapat dilihat dimana ia berakhir berdekatan dengan Jetty Batu Musang. Terdapat sebuah air terjun di puncak bukit tersebut yang kini sudah kering sejak penanaman kelapa dilakukan.

Jetty Batu Musang
Jetty Batu Musang pada satu ketika menjadi pelabuhan pengangkutan utama untuk mengangkut batu kuari dari Batu Kawan untuk membina George Town.

Club Beach ( Pantai Batu Musang )
Pantai ini terletak bersebelahan dengan Jetty Batu Musang. Pantai ini dinamakan Club Beach kerana Warga British sering beristirehat di pantai tersebut pada waktu malam. Terdapat sebuah rumah kelab di pantai tersebut pada ketika itu. Penduduk tempatan telah menggantikan nama Club Beach kepada Pantai Batu Musang.

Ladang Tebu
Di sekeiling Ladang Batu Kawan, terdapat tapak granit yang pada satu ketika dipasang alat khas untuk menggunakan lembu bagi mengkisar tebu. Walaupun pengkisar tersebut sudah hilang, tapak tersebut masih dapat dilihat di perkampungan tersebut.

We are a locally based organization who are active in community service and also are focused on youth's development. PGMPP was formed in 2001 as 'Mooneruvom' ( self uplifting ) and later was registered officially in 2004. We have organized more than 25 programs the last few years. Our biggest achievement is, when we successfully created the Longest Palm Print Jalur Gemilang to be listed into The Malaysia Book Of Records On 21st September 2006. The previous record was held by Jabatan Perpaduan Negara & Integrasi Nasional ( Jabatan Perdana Menteri ), SPT. Our current project is to publish a book on the History of Batu Kawan & Perai. Our Research Bureau is undertaking the project and it is to be complete in a few years.
